    3. Hello List, I have just subscribed to this list and am hoping someone can help me find information on the following individuals that are in the Cloquet censuses: 1910: Carlton, 2-WD Cloquet, Ernest Stolberg, 33, wife Anna 35, Children George 8, Pauline 6 (daughter), Mildred 4, and Ernst 2. 1920: Carlton, 3-WD Cloquet, 912 Carlton Ave, Cloquet City, Earnest Stolberg, 43, Anna 44, George 17, Paul 15 (son), Mildred 13, William 11, and Gordon 9. Ernst Johan Stålberg emigrated from Sweden April 6, 1883. I have not located him/them in 1900. In 1910 Ernst and Anna are shown as having been married for 10 years however, I do not know for sure that they were married in Carlton County. Does anyone have access to marriage records for 1899-1902 or birth records for 1902-1905? The icons for the two newspapers that are listed in Rootsweb for Cloquet, "The Pine Knot" and "Cloquet Journal" are not functional. I believe that the Journal is now part of Ancestry and accessible only through a subscription. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Regards Mary Heilman

    1. Minnesota Death Certificate Look-Up Service
    2. Carol Bauer
    3. Dear List: My kids noticed a lot of death cert requests on another list (we share an email address). So....they started pulling death certs a few weeks ago for the Hennepin County List I'm on. My kids pull them at the Minnesota Historical Society (http://people.mnhs.org/dci/Search.cfm) and I am taking care of the email interface, all copy costs, sending them out, etc. [I don't want them to get sent to the wrong people or wrong address.] By the way, the Historical Society will pull them for you but charges $8 each (they have to pay the employees). We are willing to do this for people on this list and usually go about every 8 weeks. It is a 35-45 min drive from our home and MHS parking charges are by the hour, so we are asking for $2.50/death cert. We do ask people to send payment and a SASE before we go and copy the certs. This will get the certs to people much more quickly since I will be able to mail them as soon as we get them. When I started this, I was worried that the database wasn't always accurate but it seems to be very reliable. If anyone on this list is interested: - Please send the name, county, date of death, and death cert ID # for each death cert from the MHS database. - Please put the words "Request for Minnesota Death Cert" in the subject line of your email. - Let me know if you are in Canada or another foreign country. - Please send the requests to us off-list so we don't clutter up the list. I will respond to each email so people are not left wondering, so please do not request it from me and someone else at the same time. Thank you. Carol & kids Please send all replies to: <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected]

    2. FHHayward
    3. My best source of knowledge of 19th century life of my great grandparents, Samuel B. Embury and Hannah Goodge Hassing Embury Collins of Estherville Iowa comes from the columns of the Editor of the Carlton Vidette, W. H. Hassing. Mr. Hassing passed away in 1945 and Vidette was sold sometime after 1945 eventually it becoming absorbed by the Pine Knot in Cloquet. The two obituaries he wrote for his mother and step-father give me a window into their family life. I recently have received an obituary of O. Coulson, Mr. Hassing's aunt and have tried to find other articles that he wrote that describe his family life. In my search last year, I managed to track down his 92 year old son, Bernard, but he was in failing health and did not have a collection of his father's writings. Is there anyone on this list who can provide assistance in discovering this journalist's jottings. Fred H Hayward Oakville, Ontario. [email protected]

She was born in 1867 in Norway and died September 21, 1932 in Mahtowa, MN. Her husband's name was John P. Peterson. They were married in 1896. I am trying to find the names of her parents. 2. Kevin Frye
    3. Hello veterans and newbies of the rootsweb. There are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 259 prisoners on record from the state of Minnesota and more than 100 who died here, I thought I would send my offer. I feel the need to say I am not in anyway trying to focus on the horrors of Andersonville compared to any POW camp in the north ..( i.e.Elmira ) or any others and do not wish to stir up arguments on this site. My focus is dedicated to ALL of those held prisoner during this war , on both sides as well as all Americans who gave their freedoms for those that we enjoy today.. I just happen to be near Andersonville so this is where I do my work Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. Please do not consider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask. Please visit my website dedicated to those Americans who were imprisoned and died in captivity while in the service to our country Kevn Frye Local Andersonville Historian / National Park Service Volunteer http://www.angelfire.com/ga2/Andersonvilleprison/index.html AOL USERS go to http://hometown.aol.com/andersonvillecw/

    3. Hello Listers, I hope some of you can identify this couple--- James MCHARG, born 8 Mar. 1860 (birthplace not yet determined), died 23 October 1935 in Barnum, Minnesota; and his wife Mary MITTEN, born 1 Jan. 1857 in Quebec, Canada. They were married 6 Sept. 1882 in Lowell, Mass. According to Mary's brother, Anthony Mitten of Lowell, Mass., they had a son named William who served in World War I. I hope one of the list members recognizes this family. I am trying to track down living descendants in hopes they can identify the birthplace of Mary's father, George MITTEN, purportedly born 9 Aug. 1809 in "England." Thanks for any help.
