His name was John Baptist Backes. He is born 1843 in Auw bei Prüm as a son of Nickolaus Backes and his wife Anna Margaretha Pesch. Johann B. married Anna Gertrud Jenniges. She is born 1847 in Allmuthen, Germany, now Belgium in the eifel area, as a daughter of Mathias Jenniges and Anna Gertrud Knauf. They immigradet to US with 9 children: Nicholas 1873, John 1875, Helene 1877, Nikolaus 1879, Margaret 1881, Mathias 1883, Anna 1885, Barbara 1887 and Anne Catherine 1889.
