Halter Dies at Springfield, Brown County, Minnesota Christian Fredrick Halter, one of Cottowood county's pioneers passed away suddenly to his final reward Friday evening, May 25, at the Old Folks Home at Springfield, Minn., being 81 years of age at the time of his death. Christian Friedrick Halter was born on May 1, 1853, near Eichoist, Germany. In the spring of 1854 he immigrated with his parents to America, settling near Madison, Wisconsin. There they lived until the year of 1869, when they settled near New Ulm, until the year 1871, when they came to Cottonwood county. Here he spent most of his years, with the exception of a few years which were spent in Omaha, Nebraska. In the fall of 1917 he decided to go to the Old Folks home at Springfield, where he made his home until his death. Mr. Halter was man of christian character, being baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith which faith he confessed unto his end. The pallbearers ere six nephews of the deceased: William, Otto, Edward, Albert, Joe and Reinhold Halter. Deceased leaves to mourn his death, four brothers, namely, Henry of Jeffers, Herman of Lamberton, Thomas of Delft, and August of Spokane, Wash., and a number of relatives and friends. The last rites, read by Rev. Fisher, were held last Monday afternoon at the Old Folks Home at Springfield. Relatives attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Herman Halter, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Halter and son, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Halter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Halter and son, Mr. and Mrs. John Halter, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Anderson, all of Lamberton; Henry Halter, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Torkleson and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schmidt and family, Mr. and Mrs.Herman Schmidt and son, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Quade, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert McCartney, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Schneider, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schoneman, and Mrs. Alvina Rand, all of Jeffers. Mr and Mrs Magnus Newdall of Cobden; Mr and Mrs Thomas Halter, Mr and Mrs August Langerman, Mr and Mrs Albert Halter and daughter, Fred Halter, all of Delft; mr and Mrs Reinhold Halter and family, Mr and Mrs Otto Halter, Mr and Mrs Ed. Pieske and sons, Mr and Mrs Lawrence Pieske adn sons of Sanborn; Mr and Mrs Carl Erickson of Windom, and a nubmer of friends of Germantown and Highwater townships. The remains were laid to rest in the St. Paul Lutheran cemetery at Springfield.
