    3. Jodi, Once you get the letters translated, it would be wonderful if you would post any reference to the Sioux uprising and Brown county. I am sure everyone in this list would love to hear some history. In Brown county I am researching the Heinrich HAMMER (1820- ) family and the Frederich William KIESLING (1829-1912) families from New Ulm. Heinrich Hammer wrote several letters in German back to his family in Germany about the 1862 Indian uprising and other subjects. I haven't yet requested them via interlibrary loan, but I'll be persuing that at some point. 3. Hi to all. I've been trying to find my grandpa "Frank C. Jones" in Minnesota. The only information i have is that they lived in Brown County in 1956. Their address as of 1970 was: Route 2 Box 79, Morgan, Minn. 56266. My father passed away before i was interested in Genealogy, therefore I don't have much information on his side of the family. Maybe a copy of the phone book listing of the Jones section. Any information would be of great help. Thanks. 3. Hi all .. I received this from another web list I subscribe to .. I hope none of you on this list have been victimized by these "people", and if you do receive anything from this "company" that you will report it to the address in the following message. Thanks Dick Schweiss (List Admin.) Brown County, MN Mail List ... [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- Subject: [PAERIE] Genealogy Spam Update Date: Fri, 09 Mar 2001 07:28:46 -0800 It looks like the fictitious Family Discovery genealogy service has moved to Prodigy now. I contacted Prodigy this morning and they have asked that anyone who receives solicitation email from familydiscovery.com to take the following steps immediately: 1) Forward the entire Family Discovery message to: [email protected] 2) Include the following information (most of which was provided by Rita from the Oconto County, WI list): "Please note that the attached message is now being sent through your ISP service. They have been reported to various State Attorney General's Office on computer fraud, but it is hard to catch up with them. Originally the "company" linked to free information sites and placed the pages in "frames" so that it looked like it was their own work. Customers paid for that information. The scam, now, is paying for the free information links and then they "move" frequently and leave their paid-up customers without services." 3) Post these same instructions on any other lists today so that Prodigy has a better chance of finding the spammers.

    3. Posted on: Brown Co. Mn Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mn/Brown/10031 Surname: Dick, Staley, Pingle ------------------------- I am looking for information on Edward DICK born July 16, 1874 Fairmount, Martin Co., MN? died February 13, 1949 in Fairmount, Martin Co., MN. Edward married Emma STALEY in 1917. Emma STALEY was born in Paris, IL. They had the following children: Louise Jane Dick, Mary Evelyn Dick, Annabelle Lucinda Dick, Mable Dick, Charles Francis Dick, John Henry Dick. The children were born in IL. I am not sure if Edward was born in MN or IL and died in MN, IL. But a letter sent to my mother in law stated he was in Fairmount, MN but I can not decipher if he was born or died there. Below is a copy of a letter found: A letter was found dated December 26, 1946, a reply from Carl A. Witt, Clerk of District Court, Brown County, New Ulm, Minnesota. Evidently Edward had inquired as to whether or not he had been adopted by a John Pingle family that evidently raised him. Letter is as follows: Dec. 26, 1946 Mr. Edward Dick c/o Patters Stables Fairmount, Minnesota Dear Sir, Replying to your letter of December 23rd, we are sorry to inform you, that we are not able to locate any adoption records either under the name of Dick or Pingle. Therefore, we think you were never legally adopted by the John Pingle family as otherwise there should be some adoption papers on file in this office. Yours very truly, Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Kristie

    3. Hi Coleen Springfield is indeed in BROWN County in Southern Minnesota ... BUT .. REDWOOD County borders BROWN just North of Springfield, so unless the cemetery is actually in the town of Springfield, they may be right .. due to moving county lines since that time period Also possible that Springfield is the closest (large) town to the cemetery, which may be why it's listed that way Good luck on this one 8-D Thanks Dick Schweiss (List Admin.) 3. I've been posting a few cemeteries on my web page. Today, someone wrote to me, sounding rather upset that I had listed a tiny little cemetery (one stone and one footstone) as being near Springfield (Brown County). (That is what my microfilm says). This person who disagrees tells me that the SUNDOWN CEMETERY which is one small footstone that says "L.F." and one upright stone that has the names of Dorothea and Laura O'Callaghan (died 1879 & 1882) children of P.& M. O'Callaghan. The person that wrote to me assures me that this little "cemetery" is really in Redwood County. Does anyone know for sure? Coleen Alaska http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~coleen

    3. DickĀ… Thanks for the Rootsweb sites. I was able to link to the Brown County Historical Society from the Obituary site. However, I still can't see obituaries submitted before the last one or two. Can't figure how to view them. Must one have a surname to submit? I would like to find a list of submitted obituaries, so I can get an idea whether to add obituaries. Can they be very old or only recent ones? If no one can view them, what's the point? Appreciate your help on this. Thanks. Peggy
