Henry's death certificate is available at the MN History Center so I took a look at it. His wife is listed as Lisabeth Engelman. They lived in New Ulm, but I couldn't find an obituary. They also had Alwin's death certificate, so I took a copy of that too. If you'd like these copies please email me directly with your address and I'll send them to you. The copies only cost me 50 cents. Dianne

Survivors are listed as CHILDREN: Janet (Ron) Kahle, Marlin, and Leon (Jane) Portner all of New Ulm. SIBLINGS Raymond (Alice), and George (Angie) Portner all of New Ulm. Maybe Susan is the daughter of Raymond or George? I am no relation, I was just curious enough to find the obituary. A small picture of Leonard is included. If you want me to mail you the copy, please email me directly with your address.

Greetings, The village of Loreno is now the city of Sleepy Eye, in Brown County, Minnesota. It had the name Loreno for only a very short time. Regarding Talbots: Elizabeth Scobie, now deceased, did a small history of Sleepy Eye. In it she mentions Thomas Talbot. The story is very interesting. According to Miss Scobie's book, a man named Talbot married "beneath him" and after his death from a plague, his parents booked passage for the daughter-in-law and her two sons, one of who was named Tom. The young woman found a place on a wagon train heading west. Among the travelers was a man named Simmons. Mrs. Talbot married Ralph B. Simmons and the family settled in Wisconsin before coming to Minnesota. Tom Talbot's daughter Jessie was the first child born (2-22-1873) after the town was platted. The book contains some information about the store(s) the Talbots owned. Miss Scobie writes that Tom Talbot married four times, all of whom died before Talbot's own death. There is more, too lengthy to add here. For more information you may write to the Sleepy Eye Depot Museum, P.O. Box 544, Sleepy Eye, MN 56085 or e-mail to the museum and Sleepy Eye Historical Society at: [email protected] I am not sure if the Scobie book is still available but someone at these addresses can tell you that. Hope this helps, Peggy Tauer
