    1. [MNBROWN] surnames
    2. From: [email protected] (Kebis, Pamela E) To: [email protected] ('[email protected]') Dick, How did you create the list of surnames, with number of names attached. Don't think my program can do that. Anyway, my primary names I am researching are listed below. Most families lived at one time around Brown & Nicollet counties. Backer Buggert Gabriel Gareis Heck Jensen (from Schlewswig-Holstein) Kaping/Kopping Karow (Henrietta Karow B.1822 married Frederic Ludwig (Captian Louis) Buggert. He died in the indian wars and she married Peter Joseph Schmitz. Her mother Maria lived at her at one time. Maria was born in 1800 and died 1875. Ernestines father may have been named Heinrich, but I am not sure. I am wondering is she had any siblings? Krause Kuelbs Lang Matsch Ranweiler Rickers Schaefer Schroeder Schwartz Stutz Wagner Wilfahrt (step relation) Winkler (Margaret Winkler born 1817, married Johann Joseph Gabriel. Her parents are Jacob and Catherine. I am wondering if they immigrated to the US also, or any of her siblings) Pam Wagner Kebis

    3. Well now the rest of you know who and what I am! When responding to someone make sure it does not reply to all on the list as I have just done. But in my case so what, it is better than reading my obituary. 3. Hi Dick, If you have the interest I can dig up my Groebner file that Stuart Groebner put together. The Groebners came from Muttersdorf CR a village I have been to twice. My mother's mother was a Groebner, that's where my interest lies. Groebner's are mentioned on the German Bohemian website. I belong to the Brown County Historical Society, I am Board member of both german Bohemians and Junior Pioneers. I became interested in genealogy because of the rememberances of sitting on my greatgrandmothers lap who's father was Anton Henle, one of the founders of New Ulm. As far as the old stomping grounds, well. Herman is off his perch and being repaired next to the base, so driving into town would look really different to you without him looking over the town. New Ulm is celebrating its 150th anniversary with many activities planned. Heritagefest almost made the deep six but will be held this year with new acts and activities, believe it or not - sauerkraut wrestling. Even though I have lived in North Mankato since1972 after going to Mankato State after my 7 year hitch in the Navy. Spent my time on Polaris submarines where I became interested in chemistry which I later earned a master degree in. I don't know if you remember but I damn near didn't make it out of high school. Married Shirleen Franta and we have two kids, one of each, and two granddaughters from son/wife. If I remember you live in Washington. A couple years ago I ran into Tom Hartle in Deadwood SD, he lives out your way also. He graduated in 61. Kind of uprising to run into him by accident like that. Hope things are going well for you! 3. Hi Jerry, We've met. I've been to the German Bohemian picnic quite often with Char Kastanek. Char's mom and I are sisters. I'm not sure what you are looking for as far as information is concerned. I went to Spaichingen and Aixheim Germany in 1981 and visited with the Guldens who still reside there. They have also been to Minnesota and to New Ulm within the last 15 years and I have the e-mail address of one of them. They have a total family history way back to Wilhelm Gulden. Maria Effinger was married to Philipp Gulden. Philipp was born April 29, 1717 and died May 26, 1760. Wilhelm Gulden was born around 1670 and was married to Maria Veser. They are the parents of the above Philipp. Is this the sort of stuff you are looking for? I got a great deal of information from Judy Manning who is a decendant of Nicholas Gulden and his first wife, Gertrude Hillesheim. I am a descendant of Nicholas and his second wife, Elizabeth Schaeffer. Judy Manning and her husband live in Brooklyn Park and we correspond regularly. Judy's sister and her husband have been to Germany quite frequently to visit the Gulden's out there. (Max and Hugo Gulden) I have collected so many photos and information on the Gulden family (there are so doggone many of them) that my 3-ring binder is beginning to look like a rolodex. If you have specific questions, I would love to help you answer them. If you are starting from scratch, you will have to come visit and bring a copy machine!!!!!! 1. [MN-BROWN COUNTY] Unidentified Child (xxxx-1891) Murdered by Starvation?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: BRODDA Classification: Death Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HGB.2ACE/132 Message Board Post: The Alexandria Post, Alexandria, Douglas County, Minnesota Friday, September 4, 1891, page 2, col. 6. MURDERED A CHILD. That is the Charge Brought Against a Mysterious Couple in Brown County. Starvation Alleged to Be the Method by Which the Child Was Put Out of the Way. NEW ULM, Minn., Special Telegram, Sept. 1.—There was brought to this city to-day an old man and a young woman, delegated to remain in jail here until January under a charge of murder. They come from Golden Gate, in this county, and if the charge against them is true it reveals a story of cruelty and heartlessness that has never been equaled in these parts before. The old man claims to be a doctor, a graduate of a college in the old country. He possesses more than the average amount of shrewdness. The companion of his crime is one who claims to be his niece or cousin, but there are many who think she is his daughter. She is less than thirty years old, and has been living with him since he settled in Golden Gate. In April she became the mother of twins. Steps were taken then to indict the pair for living together unlawfully, but were futile. This caused them to endeavor to get rid of the children, and, as none of the neighbors would take them, it seems they made up their minds to get rid of the children by an inhuman system of starvation. Note was taken of this by neighbor, but in spite of the efforts of kind friends the children were now allowed to obtain food, and one of them died. A coroner’s inquest followed and then the arrests. The charge was for murder, and sufficient evidence was found to bind them over to the district court. The young woman sticks to the story given by the old man, but so plain was it that the child was starved that no trouble was met with in confining them for several months under the worst charge known to the law. When brought to this city to-day the young woman was greatly afraid, and it is thought that she would confess all when she is kept apart from the doctor, whose name is August Brodda. She is accompanied by the remaining child, who is also almost starved to death. The old doctor takes it all without concern. He depends much on his own shrewdness and laughs at the lawyers who are conducting the prosecution. The testimony is so sensational and at the same time reveals such unusual cruelty that it has worked up any amount of feeling among the people in the vicinity of Golden Gate. Had not the count attorney taken action it is more than probable that the doctor would have been the central figure in a lynching bee. Transcribed from microfilm copy of newspaper at Minnesota History Center, St. Paul, MN. Can anyone identify the unfortunate child and its mother?
