Below is more information on William Henry Day, son of Thomas H. Day, about whom I first wrote in 2000. This William Henry Day appears unlikely to be part of your family because no Daniel Price Day is listed in his family in 1880. William Henry Day b. ca. 1843 in New York, d. pre-15 May 1888 in Minnesota. He is listed with his family in the 1880 federal census of the First Ward of Mankato, Blue Earth County, MN (page 440a, dwelling #41/family #43). Here's the listing: William H. Day, 37, epilepsy, born NY, parents born NY; Eliza Day - wife, 35, keeping house, b. NY, parents b. NY; Loise A. Day - dau., 11, at school, born MN, parents b. NY; Myrtie E. Day - dau., 9, at school, born MN, parents b. NY; Orrin L. Day - son, 7, at school, born MN, parents b. NY; Fred Day - son, 6, at school, born MN, parents b. NY. Have you checked the following: Blue Earth County Historical Society. I find cemetery index records for a Berta, Bertha, and Simon OLSON. They have many other databases and do research: http://www.bechshistory.com/research/indexes.html Are you familiar with the volunteer-run genweb project? Here is the link to the main MN site: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mngenweb/ And here is the Blue Earth County site from that page: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mnblueea/ There are indexes of many Blue Earth County historical books on the site, as well as much more information. In Tillie's obituary (1911) it mentions "one sister living in Missoula Mont. and an aunt at Mankato". I don't know when her sister was born or her name, although the first name could be Nellie born abt. 1857 in Norway, Syverny or Alsisina (sp.) born abt. 1874/5 in Minnesota, or Bertha born abt. 1879 in Minnesota. If her sister was born in Norway, she would have immigrated about 1868. The date is per Tillie's obituary although I haven't found the records. Also, if her sister was born in Norway, there is a good chance she was born near Romedahl Headmarken. This is where Tillie indicated she was born. I don't have the birth record for Tillie either to confirm the location. If she was born in Minnesota, she was likely born near Mankato, MN which is in Blue Earth County. Their father was Simon (or Simeon) Olson/Oleson. I'm finding the first and last name spelled with and without the e in the census records. Simon is consistent about indicating he was born in Norway. Simon is listed in the 1875 and 1880 census in Mankato, Blue Earth County, MN along with a woman named Bertha born in Norway, presumably his wife and their mother. In 1885 the family is in Alliance, Clay County, MN. I have no idea if the missing aunt is a sister or sister-in-law to Simon. I do know that the aunt was from her side of the family, because the Steichen family was not in Mankato. I'm hopeful these individuals are familiar to someone and we can make a connection. The Adobe Reader software is required to view, manipulate and print PDF data is included on each CD. States with maps and atlases currently available are shown in the graphic to the right. 19th century geographic and statistical data are useful to historians, genealogists and researchers with an interest in the landscape and cultural setting of this period. Early county maps may contain many places that no longer exist or that have been obscured over time. Atlases with statistical data provide vivid detail of 19th century pioneer lifestyles. Details on early maps are often difficult to read and these are no exception; however, by virtue of the Adobe PDF formatting, these documents may be inspected and printed at high levels of magnification without additional digital distortion; something that simply cannot be accomplished with paper reproductions and photocopies. There is a vast amount of information that can be gleaned from these sources and the diligent researcher will find these cartographic resources useful in their studies. ------------------------------------------------------------ 19th CENTURY ATLAS, MAPS, HISTORICAL GUIDES & GAZETTEERS (includes publications from IA, IN, MN, OH and WI) Historians, genealogists and researchers of the 19th century Midwestern United States will find the vast amount of historical research material in these books and atlases on CD a very valuable resource. Each of these extensive gazetteer and immigrant guides contain the description of places and place names, many of which are no longer found on contemporary maps, including: cities, towns, villages, settlements, schools, post offices, transportation routes and schedules, and much more. Historical Guides and Gazetteer CD's may also include maps of the period providing cartographic reference to 19th century places identified and discussed in the literature. Also included are hundreds of advertisements by contributing businesses providing historical insight into the goods, services and the merchants that made them available during the 19th century. Anyone interested in the history of these regions will find this material useful. ------------------------------------------------------------ Good luck with your research! Apparently much of the family, after going from Canada to Fond du Lac, WI, ultimately settled in Faribault County, MN. Eli's daughter, Ellen Derusha, married Warren D Coffin. One of their children, Ella Genevieve Ferdinandsen (nee Coffin) was my great grandmother. Alexis Brien dit Desrochers can be traced all the way back to the founding of New France with the arrival of Nicolas Marsolet in about 1613. I am really interested in learning more about their lives, especially in Fond du Lac and Minnesota. I would also like information on where they might be buried in Faribault County. Thanks.
