    1. [MNBENTON] Re: Vital Records
    2. Minnesota vital records are kept in the County Recorders office. Birth and death records usually begin in 1870. Only a small percentage of the births and deaths were recorded in these early years. The Minnesota Department of Health has duplicate copies of birth records since 1900 and deaths since 1908. Marriage records are generally recorded from 1958 and divorce decrees from 1970 and remain housed at the county level. All copies, whether certified or uncertified, cost $11.00 for death and marriage certificates. Birth certificates cost $14.00. Minnesota law provides for an hourly charge to search for records when the date of the event is not known. An application and notarization is required for birth and death records (New law effective August 1, 2000). 1. [MNBENTON] Death Certificates Needed
    2. Geoff Rasmussen
    3. I need to obtain 3 possible death certificates in Benton County for individuals who died between the years of 1880-1885, 1884-1895, and 1885-1900. Will the Benton County Recorder's office search their indexes for the names I provide? Or is there a researcher on this list I could employ to retrieve these documents? What are the current fees for non-certified copies? Sincerely, Geoff Rasmussen geoff@geoffrasmussen.com

    1. [MNBENTON] Minn. Family Group Sheets
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GGB.2ACE/73 Message Board Post: I'm happy to announce a new Special Project, the Minnesota Family Group Sheet (FGS) project. It's my privilege to be managing it, and I hope to be very busy adding family group sheets submitted by all of you. The URL for the page is http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/minnesota/ I think you'll find the page easy to read and use, but if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. The USFGS home page, http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/ links to all the states that have a family group project. I hope you'll take advantage of this new project. Those of us who have been working to bring it to Minnesota are very excited about its possibilities. Any family group that lived in Minnesota, even for a short time, can be posted. THE ONLY MINNESOTA PERSON WHO CANNOT BE POSTED ARE THOSE WHO ARE LIVING. Each family group sheet provides space for basic information about father, mother, and children; so if you only know about one family unit, you know enough to put the information up. If you know more, you can add more family group sheets: the father's parents and siblings, the mother's parents and siblings, the children's spouses and children, and on and on. If you've traced the family on into Wisconson, Iowa, and the Dakotas, you can post your group sheet in those states as well as Minnesota. But just one family sheet in one state can be enough to make new and exciting connections. We've prepared the pages and forms, added search engines and links, and now it's in your hands. Send in your family group sheets. One a day, ten a day, one a week, whatever works for you. Tell your fellow researchers about the site. Talk about it at your next genealogical society meeting. Mention it in your emails. The more people hear about the site, the more contributions we're likely to get; and the more contributions we receive, the more valuable the project is going to be in helping you make family connections. I'll be waiting for your family to turn up in my mailbox!

Wixson and Sarah Lint, September 24, 1856. I have reason to believe the marriage was in Benton County because that same month George S. Wixson bought 500 acres of land in Benton County, and written in the upper corner of the Land Patent is "Preemption." According to the research aide for the Land Patents that's an indication they occupied the land before purchase. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Brendan

Surnames: Eldred Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GGB.2ACE/68 Message Board Post: My name is Jennifer, I am the grandaughter of Katherine Hoke Kuwasaki. For years I have been trying desperately to find my roots to my great grandad Philip Ward Eldred. The only known information I have based on my great grandad so far that he was married to my great grandmother. Her name was Francis Keohokalani Kanoe. I understood they lived here on the island of O'ahu but not sure of the area. I also was told by my grandmother that my great grandad was a casualty of Pearl Harbor of December 7, 1941. The only recollection my grandmother had possibly where my great grandad came from was Logan, Missouri. I also understood that there was something she recollected about a bank. Anyway, what I hope to find in my search, with all faith, my great grandad's paternal family. Please if there may be any connection in your info or by family, please contact me. My ancestors came from the Kamin area of West Prussia. Specifically from Gross Zirkwitz and Ploetzig. The then settled in Gilmanton Township of Benton County. I am curious if there are other families from this area of West Prussia that settled in Gilmanton Township as well.
