Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GGB.2ACE/55.1.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Jacob Zika (Zyka) and his wife Maria Urbanek came to the USA on June, 25, 1862. They came directly to Helena Township, just outside of New Prague, MN. They settled on a farm next to the Joseph Novotny and Marushka families. (The same families were on the EF Gabain from Breman.). On May 19, 1867, Jacob died and was buried from St Wenceslaus in New Prague. In the 1880 census, Maria is living with her son Martin and Anna Trenda, Martin died on May 1, 1881, from diptheria and was buried from ST W. Later that year Anna married Albert Dvorak. Martin and Anna had two chiildren, Mary, 1877, and James Zika, 26 Sept, 1879. In the state census for 1885, Maria is living with John and Barbara Kocina in LeSueur Co, just south of New Prague. I can find no further mention of her. Whether she remarried or moved from the area, I cn't say. But she is definiely not in civil or church records from that time. Wencel, Sept, 1852 married and moved to Big Stone Co, MN and later to St Paul, where he was a fireman. In the 1900 census for St Paul, James and his wife Barbara are listed as having four living children, although none are living with them. By 1907, Barbara is listed in the City Directory as a widow. But again I can find no record of James' death. My great grandmother is Catherine Zika. On Feb 9, 1880, she married Frank Radosta. They remained in the New Prague, Veseli area and had six children, Joseph, Mary, Kate, John, Rose and Marcella. Frank died on Feb 14, 1895; and Catherine on Feb 27, 1920. Barbara Kocina, listed above, is the sister of Frank. Why Maria Zika is living with them in 1885, I really can't say. I would be happy for any additional information you can provide. If you like, you may email me directly

I believe these may be the Zika's I'm looking for. Also do you have information on Jakob and Maria Zika? Like birth dates, death dates, marriage, etc?? This is exciting, as I had come to a dead end, and now maybe I'll have more information to go on. Thanks!

Individual county maps are useful for identifying 1874 transportation routes, railroads, canals, streams and rivers, cities, towns and villages, and early Minnesota place names. One-room schools, churches, cemeteries and other cultural features are also included in the county maps. The city and village plat maps in the Minnesota Atlas are often more detailed with many early property owners identified; industrial sites including a variety of stores, factories and mills; State and local government sites: cemeteries, churches, schools, fair grounds, race tracks, asylum & hospitals; and much more. The high resolution digital map data is presented in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). and the Adobe Acrobat Reader is included on each CD. Other recent additions to the Historic Atlas Series include the states of Iowa and Wisconsin. Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Missouri CD's are planned for the near future. The Historic Atlas Series also appears at our eBay store: http://stores.ebay.com/Historic-Atlas-Series-by-HAR?refid=store Thanks for reading...please check back often for more updates.
