At that time you needed only a few months of post high school education to become certified. So thinking in terms of a traditional 4 yr education like Eastern Michigan State Teachers College and Western Michigan State Teachers College provided was not the norm back them. In my family tree I have at least 5 teachers in Michigan that started teaching (all in rural schools) with only a summer sessions worth of post high school education. They started teaching in Michigan from the period of 1893 thru 1928 (the last took summer classes until she earned her Masters in 1954). Sorry I don't have a book to reference for you. I can send you a copy of Ellen Isberg's obit to confirm the existence of Wexford County Normal if that would help. She should have attended in 1923 - 24 as she was born in 1907.
