Charles Haass was for many years the pastor of St. John's Church which eventually became St. John's-St. Luke Evangelical Church of the United Church of Christ. The following website has the history of the church: http://www.angelfire.com/mi3/templatesdotcom/St._John_s___St._Luke.htm There was also a St. Johns Lutheran Church which was called ev. luth. St. Johannes Kirche. This Church was organized in 1879 and was located on Ash St., near 23rd St. in Detroit. In 1881 it moved to Maybury Grand and Popular. In 1957 it moved to 4950 Oakman Blvd. In 1976 St. Matthias of Ferndale merged into it. I believe that this church was a daughter church of Historic Trinity. My mother was baptized there in 1910 by the Rev. G. Claus. It can be confusing to try to track the old German churches as there always seem to be so many splits & mergers. The early German immigrants must have been a contentious lot. Hope this is helpful Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
