My experience has been that the Wayne County Clerk does not have divorce records prior to the middle 1940's. I was told by a clerk last winter that they had sent all of these records to the State Archives in Lansing. At that time the State Archives could not verify this. The Archives does have divorce indexes on microfilm from 1897-1923 and 1924-1977. I located the index record for 1923 and took the date and certificate number to the Michigan Department of Community Health, Vital Records office and obtained a copy of the certificate of divorce. I have not been able to locate the divorce files from Wayne County Circuit Court. http://www.michigan.gov/mdch/0,1607,7-132-4645---,00.html Good luck, Al Wakenhut www.GenealogyGenius.com -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, May 30, 2012 1:08 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [MIWAYNE] Divorce index for 1932 through 1938 Hello, I am looking for a divorce index for the above years. I have a person who married in Cleveland OH and the husband marries a second time in 1938. Then he divorces again in 1941. Cleveland courts have no record of the first divorce. The wife is originally from Detroit. So hoping Detroit is where the divorce was obtained.
