People were still laid out in the family home back then. I remember going to a home about 1948-49 where the person was laid out in the "parlor". >From previous conversations on this message board and others, many funeral home owners took the records with them and you will not be able to find them or they were destroyed by the new owners. This raises a VERY interesting question (for me!) My great grandfather, Will M. Cochran, died in San Francisco on July 6, 1941. He had no wife or woman at the time. His daughter Marguerite Huss was notified, and from the death certificate that I obtained his coffin was sent back to Marguerite Huss who at that time lived at 4338 Bingham, Dearborn, Michigan. I have been unable to find a burial date for him on FINDAGRAVE. Only his California death record. Are you suggesting that he could be buried in the back yard at 4338 Bingham, Dearborn, Michigan? Also, of further note, I called the MacFarland Funeral in Dearborn, home where his remains were shipped, and they have absolutely NO INFORMATION about what happened to him!! Which now, thanks to the perspective offered below, leads me to suspect that he really was buried at 4338 Bingham, Dearborn, where his daughter Marguerite was living. If anyone has any comments about this possible scenario, I would be most appreciative to hear your thoughts.
