    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jaw1369 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.wayne/18626.3.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have have a book on Detroit history and they put in a quick line about Detroit's once city cemetery it states: "And did you know Eastern Market sits on what once was the city's cemetery? About 4,000 bodies were dug up in the 1880's to make way for the market. They were reburied in one big grave--just east of where Conner crosses I-94. There's a marker." It's also a possibility he may have been buried in the city cemetery and is now part of the one big grave. If this is the case I do not know how you would find out if he was buried there. You may want to check this website first the site is: http://www.mdch.state.mi.us/pha/osr/gendisx/search2.htm This is a site that you can put the last name and first name of your great grandfather. If they have information on a death certificate in the state, it may come up there. Hopefully it may state which cemetery he was also buried at as well. Good luck in your search.
