If Mabel were his mother, than it would show as Indiana, Mabel's birthplace. Jimmie's death certificate would not be a primary source for his parents' names unless his parents were still living and gave the information. His birth record would be the primary source. Margaret's information on the death index gives her birth place as Ohio which is were Jimmie was born according to the census. You could try to find James and Margaret in a Detroit City Directory. Contact the Burton Historical Collection (BHC) of the main Detroit Public Library to see if they would check maybe 1925. Generally the city directories started listing wives sometime in the 1920s I think.
