What vexes me then is why the Wayne County Clerk said there was no record. My hunch is that there were too many Elizabeth Smith results for that year, and they didn't thoroughly check each one. If some piece of information I provided was wrong (like location of death - I gave them a few options), then they may just not have even bothered to look into the record in more detail. I forgot to get the record when I was at the county clerk office last month. It's easier to talk with them about what they're finding as they do it.
