    3. Where would I look for info on my 2 TAYLOR brothers, (Thomas & John J.) that are listed in the census as "sailors" They both lived in Detroit, so I assume it was on the Great Lakes. I'd like to find ship information maybe a picture of it. Any help pointing me in the right direction would really be appreciated. Mary at: i-be-leve@msn.com

    3. Hi Mary, The best place to "look" is http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.glshipping /mb.ashx As a long time member of that list I can tell you plain sailors are hard to locate at any time. They had to have some rank in order to easily find them. You may luck out on there. http://www.maritimehistoryofthegreatlakes.ca/ Good luck, Ruth ----- Original Message ----- From: "mary kahkola" <kahkola4@verizon.net> To: <MIWAYNE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 19, 2009 3:33 PM Subject: [MIWAYNE] great lakes sailors early 1900s Where would I look for info on my 2 TAYLOR brothers, (Thomas & John J.) that are listed in the census as "sailors" They both lived in Detroit, so I assume it was on the Great Lakes. 2. I think they had to be a Merchant Marine to sail - I wrote to the Merchant Marines about my grandpa and got a copy of his card - had his picture and signature. Google Merchant Marines Michigan and see if you can find an address. -----Original Message----- From: Ruth Berden <berden@advnet.net> To: mary kahkola <i-be-leve@msn.com>; miwayne@rootsweb.com Sent: Mon, Oct 19, 2009 4:09 pm Subject: Re: [MIWAYNE] great lakes sailors early 1900s Hi Mary, The best place to "look" is http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.glshipping /mb.ashx As a long time member of that list I can tell you plain sailors are hard to locate at any time.
