They have an index to the City of Detroit deaths. It would be a starting point. You can email your request at the following website. http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/burton/burton_index.htm The other option would be to see if there is a death certificate. Mailing your request to the State of Michigan would cost $27.00 Or you could ask the Detroit Public Library to do a search of the newspapers for his death notice. Cost is $15.00 and non-refundable if they do not find it. http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/gi/InternetObit.Ltr.pdf Or if you live in Michigan, you can visit the main Detroit library on Woodward Avenue or the State Library of Michigan (LOM)in Lansing which also has the Detroit papers on microfilm. They are The Detroit News, The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit Times. For that time period I have found that the News was the larger, then the Free Press and then the Times. Also, if you live in Michigan but are not able to visit either of the libraries, your local library can order the films from the LOM. The Detroit Public Library also lends the microfilms out of state thru the Inter Library Loan program if your library participates. They do charge a fee for the films lent out of state and to Canada. http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/ill/lending.htm Georgia Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
