You can order a death certificate either from the State of Michigan, Wayne County or the City of Detroit. The problem is that you are not sure if she died in Hamtramck or Detroit which means that you could get one from Wayne County (they do not have Detroit certificates)if she died in Hamtramck or from Detroit but only if she died in Detroit. Both of those options are cheaper than the State of Michigan. If she died in Detroit, she would be listed on the Detroit death index that the Burton Historical Collection of the main Detroit Public LIbrary has. I would start with that first. You can email them at the following: http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/burton/burton_index.htm For the obituary, if you are absolutely sure of the death date, the Detroit Public LIbrary will do a look up and make a copy. The fee is $15.00 whether they find one or not. http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/gi/InternetObit.Ltr.pdf You might want to contact the following to see if she was buried from St. Bonaventure since that is where Fr. Solanus was serving. St Bonaventure Monastery 1740 Mount Elliott St, Detroit, MI (313) 579-2100? If she was born in Michigan, you can get her birth certificate from the State since you are considered her "heir". Michigan has restrictions on birth certificates. You might want to check Mt. Elliott cemetery which is across the street from St. Bonaventure. http://www.mtelliott.com/ They also have Mt. Olivet Cemetery which is also in Detroit or she could have been buried in a secular cemetery. You could also try Holy Sepulchre which is in Southfield, Oakland County, Michigan. There records are all indexed now I think-same with Mt. Olivet. When ordering records from the State, it is less expensive to mail your request. Following are the websites for the State Vital REcords and Wayne County. For some reason, I could not get Detroit's website to come up. The records are at the Herman Kiefer Health Complex. Try doing a google search. http://www.michigan.gov/mdch/0,1607,7-132-4645---,00.html http://www.waynecounty.com/mygovt/clerk/services/deathcerts.aspx Good Luck, Georgia Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
