I appreciate you letting me know how you are related and some of the story behind how. Secondly, no, I am only 'related' by family friendship. Although I know of some of the stories related to the Southern family links, sadly, I am sorry that I have not heard anything of that trunk and the papers. Since you already have reached a connection through the website, I expect that you must have reached Marty. If you would like, I could always ask on your behalf, either about that trunk, or if anyone else in the family might wish or be willing to be in touch and exchange information. Obviously, there are no promises, but it won't hurt to ask. If so, just let me know how to best reference you, and how they can reach you.
