Smith and Elizabeth Miller. The Silas Farmer History of Detroit says they were married in 1869. Census records imply about 1867. They both lived in Sumpter, Wayne, MI so were probably married near there. I submitted a vital records request to Wayne County to cover 1866-1868 and got no response (I suppose 1869 is possible and my range missed it). I tried searching Ancestry.com that says they have the database of Michigan marriages that cover this time, but they don't show up. Elizabeth Miller was listed as a mulatto in some of the census records - I think she was Native American from Delaware. Would this have changed how or where the marriage would be recorded? Family info: Francis Leonard Smith (parents John R. Smith and Eliza Ann Thurston) b. 3 Mar 1845 (some records say a couple of years different) Elizabeth Miller (probably daughter of Robert Miller of Sumpter who was from Delaware and had a daughter Elizabeth, but I don't have confirmation until the marriage record) b. Aug 1847 in Delaware Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
