    3. I'm not absolutely positive, but House of Good Shepherd rang a bell for me. I "think" that's where my Mom was sent to by her step-mother when she was just starting high school. Mom wasn't a problem child as much as she was in the new brides way. Mom was fostered home from there IF that's the place she was sent to. Many of those places were dumping grounds for people--kids mainly, that others didn't want to be bothered with. You just had to have enough money and know the right people to have someone committed. Seems I recall hearing about the sisters of Good Shepherd, might have even morphed into Vista Maria, they were the same type of facility. When adults would mentin someone they knew being sent there, they spoke in whispers, but were loud and clear while threatening us over behavioral issues. Sorry for the poor memory. Toni ----- Original Message ----- From: SHieber@aol.com In the 1930 Census of Wayne County is an institution noted and there were several pages of 'inmates'. It was "House of Good Shepard". It had females of teenage years. Also there were several older women, perhaps a 'nursing home'? Does anyone know what that was?
