For any county except Wayne Co. it is recommended to contact the county for quicker service. Since you know the name, year and county of death then you can request a death certificate from the state for a fee. You will find the Web site at: http://www.michigan.gov/mdch/0,1607,7-132-4645---,00.html to have ordering information. If you have problems with that URL then try http://www.michigan.gov/ and search you way through. Another option you have is to find an Obit. The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press where two papers around at that time. Sometimes you can find a library in the area who might be willing to do a lookup. Please note that the state of Michigan is going through an economy depression at this time and many libraries have lost funding and have reduced some services they used to offer. A third option is to contact the cemetery and see if they have any information (such as obit or who paid for the plot). A fourth option is to look for a genealogical society in the area and see if they have anyone to do research for an obit. Or see if they have any information in their files. I don't know of any on-line sources for person who died that late in time except possibibly Ancestry.com which requires a subscription.
