According to their website, the main Detroit Public Library will ILL microfilms of the Detroit News and The Detroit Free Press. http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/ill/interlibrary_loan_index.htm http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/ill/lending.htm If the person died in Detroit, the Burton Historical Collection of the main Detroit Public Library has an index to deaths and will look up the name and give you the date of death. You can email the BHC from the following website: http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/burton/burton_index.htm You can order death certificates from the State of Michigan as well as other civil authorities. If they died in Wayne County but not Detroit, you can get a certificate from the County. If they died in the City of Detroit, you can get a copy from the City. Fees are higher at the state level.
