To use an American expression, "you have made my day"! I have spent hours and hours in the past trying to find, without success, what you seem to have found quite easily. How did you do it? What tools, what databases did you use? Is your success due to the fact that you are, presumably, in Michigan and know you way around the available resources? I ask these questions because there are other family members who have gone to America whom I would like to research. For example, on my wife's side (she is French) there are two brothers, George and James/Jack/Jakob Wackermann, who fled from Alsace in the mid-1860's to avoid being sent to fight in Mexico. They served in the US army, but as civilians, settled on a ranch in Arkansas, brought girls across from Alsace to be their wives, one of them stayed on in America and disappeared from view and the other went back to Alsace, hence our knowledge of their adventures. But I can find no trace of their entry, stay, or departure from the US either in Ancestry or in FamilySearch. Much closer in time, I have a Daniel O'Rourke who left Southampton, UK, on the Queen Elizabeth on 31 March 1954 bound for New York (I found the ship register on Ancestry) but I cannot find any trace of him in America. Well, I did find a naturalization request for a Daniel O'Rourke but since it is a relatively frequent name I cannot be sure that it is him. Any advice you can give me will be very much appreciated! I have to go now, but will get back to you later today about the Magee's. Once again, thank you very, very much!!!
