Joseph, I thought perhaps your Rose had re-married. So Isearched 1930 Census for a Rose about your age and a child named Arthur (I correctly guessed the daughter had married and flown the coop). So I found your Rose, now known as Rose Grubowski in the 1930 Census: Detroit-Wayne-MI (Ward #13) ED: 82-404 SHEET 26A Line #37 Arthur and Harry are with her too: Family: Waclaw husband/head, Harry Kozowski[sic] step-son age 15, Arthur Kozowski [sic] step-son age 12. The image can be found in ancestry.com (and probably other Census providers like Heritage Quest, Footnote). She was not found in the search.labs.familysearch.org website's MI Marriages 1868-1925 db, so perhaps she remarried after 1925 and before 1930 Census. Waclaw's marriage column indciates he was first married at age 38 (and is 43 in 1930 Census), so a good bet is 1926 assuming Waclaw's birthmonth is before April and they married after April in 1926.
Hello Michael, Brilliant, just brilliant!!!! Thank you for this discovery. You have solved two mysteries at once. The first is why she could not be found in the 1930 census - because she had remarried. Since her husband died in 1926, I never thought that she might have found another hubby so soon. The second is why one of her grand daughters calls her Grandma Grabowski. I have always called her Rose Kozlowski, and I never understood the discrepancy. I thought I was correct because I had done the family research. Here is a lessonn in humility. Thanks so much for your time and effort on my behalf. Joseph On Wed, Feb 24, 2010 at 6:56 AM, C.
