Over the years I could not help but notice how many women in my Detroit Polish families worked in a cigar factory. They lived in the neighborhoods of St. Albertus Church and Sweetest Heart of Mary Church - Warren Avenue and such. I have done a little probing into this business, and I have discovered two possibilities. One is the White Eagle Cigar Factory (1910 Sanborn map) which was located at 400 Grandy near Warren and was founded in 1889 by I. Wolff. Two is the Mazer Cigar Company (1921 Sanborn map) which was at 5031 Grandy and Theodore near E. Warren. If anyone has detailed information about these two cigar businesses, I would be most interested. Are there are books or articles about them? Thank you.
