The funeral home was listed on the certificate of death, and I called them. They checked and they no longer had records back to 1941. I contacted the genealogical society to see if they have anything, and they are checking for me. It was kind of puzzling with the way that no cemetery name was listed on the certificate, only River Rouge, and there doesn't seem to be one there. - Lisa Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Seymour Hospital at Eloise was a 500 bed general hospital that was part of the Eloise Hospital complex in Nankin Township. There was also a psychiatric hospital and an infirmary division. Of these the infirmary had the largest amount of patients. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I found him in the 1940 census. On the Certificate of Death it gives his usual residence as 72 E Rockwood, and it gives place of death as Eloise, Wm J. Seymour Div (hospital). It appears that he had been in the hospital about 11 days prior to his death. I am pretty sure that he was a protestant. I wasn't seeing any cemeteries directly in River Rouge when I went on find a grave. When I googled cemeteries in that area I hit on Woodmere. Thanks again! Hopefully between Downriver and the Detroit Public Library I will find something. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. See following for more information: http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/specialservice/detroit-newspaper-search-0 Or you could see if someone from the Detroit Society for Genealogical Research could help you. Select "Contact" in the lower left hand side and then "Query Researcher". www.dsgr.org Was he an inmate or have you found him in Ecorse on the 1940 census? If an inmate, not a patient, it's possible that there is no death notice/obituary. Eloise was a mental hospital but I think they might also have had a general hospital at that time-not sure. Does the death certificate show how long he was in Eloise? He does not appear on the Woodmere Cemetery index. It's not in River Rouge but it is fairly close to RR. The "A Directory of Cemeteries in Wayne County, Michigan" by Pamela L. Lazar published in 1982 does not show any cemeteries in River Rouge nor does the State's list. It may be that neither has all the cemeteries. Maybe the city could tell you what cemeteries are in River Rouge. Was he Catholic? There is a Catholic cemetery in Ecorse called St. Francis Xavier. According the book it was also known as Ecorse cemetery. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. What organization/Genealogical society/library would I contact to get an obit for an individual(John W. Thompson) who passed away Jan. 29, 1941. Place of death was in Eloise and he lived in Ecorse. I am looking for survivors, to confirm that I an researching the right person. I have the certificate of death, and I have contacted the funeral home, but they do not have the records from 1941. The certificate of death only indicates for burial River Rouge - no cemetery name, so I wasn't sure of the cemetery either. Thanks!
