I am unable to locate him in the 1905 New York Stat Census or the 1910 U.S. Census, so he likely dies between 1900 and 1910. Author: goneresearching Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.wayne/19034.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Tip 1: Locate the civil record of the marriage (the one registered with the county) and note the name of the pastor from the record. There is a book done by the Downriver Gene Soc. that cross referenced pastors up to 1900 with churches from the city directories. These include some of the outskirt areas that were in the city directory. So name of pastor should get you the church. Option 2 is google the pastor's name. The Michigan marriage records can be found on www.familysearch.org in the digitized films area (bottom of search page). One possible church for Springwells Twp residents is: Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church (4305 Military Ave, Detroit, MI 48210). It began before 1890. I helped a lady with her family in Springwells and they were in this church. The church has a website but I do not know their policy of old record lookups (each church is different. Good Luck. They have a Pastor file to look in for various pastors & teachers but that & the churches is about all they have. They do not interfere w/ the churches business as long as they comply w/ the basics of the MO Synod. Each church is on its own & a Democratic approach it how they handle it & may ask for advice from the Synod offices. I am wondering if they have a department to contact about genealogy questions or have records at their site. I am trying to find a church that my gggrandfather and family(Michaelis) would have belonged to after arriving in 1880 Springwells Township(later part of Detroit,MI. 3 daughters were born in the late 80s/early 1890s and married at St Stephens German Lutheran Church. The pastor there had a record book from 1890 and I don't know what church served that area before that. A brother who was 9 upon arrival in 1880 would have made his Confirmation in the 80s and I was hoping that a C record may have a place of baptism in Germany - just digging for any source that might lead to a place of birth in Germany! Alternate spellings are in parentheses. The earliest ancestor I know of is Klemens (Clemens) Wicha who was born in Poland in 1893 (possibly my great-granduncle). At some point hes settled in Wayne, Michigan. He married Agnes Belenzie (Belenzyr) on 10 Nov 1914. They had three children (that I know of): Stella (b. 1916), Josephine (b. 1918) and Rita Marie (1920-2007). Rita married William George Evison (1916-1991) and they had four children (that I have discovered so far). They are James W. (b. 1942), Cynthia Gayle, Jeanne Diane and Lee Earle. This is all I know of at the present time. If anyone has any information on any of these family members (especially present day ones), I would be most grateful. N.B. at some point in my family, the spelling was changed from Wicha to Wiecha. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
