I'm not sure exactly where, but on FamilySearch.org I found a death record for an Adam Zurowski in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. It said the death occurred on June 9, 1932. I would like to find more information, to find out if this is indeed my relative. I am in Canada, and not familiar at all with the Detroit area. I would welcome suggestions about how to find a newspaper article, obituary, naturalization documents--anything. Thanks! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My husband and I worked at the Soup Kitchen there with our Church group from St. Timothy's Parish in Trenton. I was not sure of all records would be available at the Archdiocese or not. But thanks for the information. I just read the article about the church consolidations this week and thought to pass it on. If they had been closed, the records would have gone to the Archdiocese of Detroit. According to The Detroit News article about their merging, both buildings will remain in use. It's really sad to have the churches' names changed. Most of my Dad's siblings were baptized at St. Leo's which is now going to be called St. Charles Lwanga. I understand why they would want a new name since St. Cecilia's, which is joining St. Leo's, also has a long history in Detroit. This George does seem to be the right person and I have seen the son Maurice on the 1930 census. My only concern is Maurices date of birth, as George's first wife Edith did not die until 1916. (They married in Canada, but both immigrants from England) Maurice could be a child from this first marriage or perhaps a son of Alice, adopted by George. I am making further checks to try and confirm. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If this George & Alice, in the 1930 & '40 censuses in Michigan, are yours, the 1930 census shows them having a son named Maurice, age 17 and born in Canada. GEORGE DRAPER was a great uncle of my father-in-law, so it's wonderful to find out what happened to him. Up until this week we had not been aware that he had moved to Canada or on to USA. George was 1 of 14 children, so finding out about him has filled a missing link. I am sharing all of the information with other family members. Is this the one that you were interested in? Name: George Draper Birth: 17 May 1887 Death: 20 Nov 1976 - West Bloomfield, Oakland, Michigan Residence: Redford, Wayne, Michigan Social Security Death Index shows him in Redford Township, Wayne County, MI. Doesn't mean that he died there-just that this is where they sent his last check. The same George Draper appears on the Oakland County City Clerk's website for deaths in Oakland County. http://courts.oakgov.com/OakGnlg/Public.aspx The 1930 and 1940 censuses show that he is a laborer in the construction business. At that time he was living in Oakland County, Michigan. Ancestry shows a 24 year old George Draper on the 1911 Canadian census living in Vancouver City, British Columbia. Very hard to read. Doesn't give a birth month or year just his age. It's possible that there might be an obituary in the local paper. You could try contacting the Redford District Library. For a death notice that might have appeared in the Detroit papers, contact: DEARBORN: Henry Ford Centennial Library (313) 943-2330, 16301 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn, Mi 48126. Has the Detroit News from 1955 and the Detroit Free Press from 1970. To request a look-up and copy of a death notice/obituary, send SASE to above address Attention: Adult Services. They will not respond without the self-addressed stamped envelope. You must know the date of death or burial. There is no charge for this service as of December 2008.
