I would try looking for a baptismal record from a church. Use a Detroit City Directory to see where the parents were living at the time of the births, then contact the Archdiocese archives to find out what church would have served that area. The Catholic church records are at the Burton Historical Collection of the main Detroit Public Library. See their website to see what church records they have and what period of time the records cover. You would have to research in person or hire someone. There is a list of researchers on the BHC website which includes the name of one of the people who has responded to your question. http://www.detroitpubliclibrary.org/burton/burton_index.htm What government agency did you write to for the birth record? If they were born outside of Detroit, the City would not have the record. If Wayne County, they do not have City of Detroit birth records but the State of Michigan should have all the records. Did you look at the LDS test website for Thomas Dougherty? With both the surnames that you have, there is a possibility that the surnames were misspelled. Where did you get the birth place of the people from? Georgia Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This means only that the seal of the state is not on the record and cannot be used for official purposes. State will do a three years search of records for death, birth and marriage. If the Form from the state does not allow of uncertified record or genealogy record I write on the form that is what I am requesting. I have had very good luck with using this method. Also try Church Records if you know, baptizied records maybe available. Good Luck. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you can prove a person's death and you are a descendant, you can obtain a copy of the birth record from Michigan Vital Records. Refer to the web site for details. Fee is $26 if you mail the application and are willing to wait about a month for the record. To find out if the 1883-83 birth was recorded, search on the site Pilot.FamilySearch.org. Michigan births 1867-1902 are posted. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. What do they mean by "don't have records"? Does this mean they were all sent somewhere else, or they don't have records for that year, or they don't have a record of that particular persons birth???? Someone born in 1935---you will not get a copy of it whether they had one or not. They should have told you that. Birth certificate info is now NOT public record because of 911. Jennifer G. Her mother was Florence McGuire Larcomb. Census records in 1920 show Dorothy as a "Larcomb", but in 1930 as a step-daughter with the last name "Sparks" which is the name she always used. I have been unable to identify who her father was. She didn't look anything like her mother, and now I wonder if Florence was her birthmother or just a relative that took her in. The reason I ask is because my great gradparents came from Radgoszcz in 1913 & were in Detroit around 1918 but than went back to Poland in the 1920's than in 1938 my grandfather came back here to the states & went to Detroit & stayed with a John Jaje whose wife's name was Irene. As I been researching I came across a Rosalia Jaje who is my Great Great Great Grandmother born probably around 1840 & I have been trying to establish the link to my grandfather Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If they died in Wayne County between 1934 and 1944 (I thnk), the BHC has index books to Wayne County deaths excluding the City of Detroit. The Burton also has City of Detroit directories. He died in a Detroit Hospital at the age of 10. His death date was June 28 1926. Im trying to locate any death information on him or if anyone knows if their is a way that I can get hospital records from that date and time for him from his hospital stay. It seems like him was in the hospital for a while since they lived about an hour from Detroit in Harrison Township and there were many hospitals there though they chose to take him to Detroit! I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone could give me! I dont live in the area but have looked and written into all the places that I can think too! My ancestors are located across the "street", road in Greenfield township in the 1876 Wayne county landowners; they are A. Cinader (Anton and Agnes Cinader); both families owned 40 acres; I believe this was later annexed to the city of Detroit and is now the area around 7mile and Livernois. There are many other families from Austria/Bohemia farming in Greenfield township in 1880: Porchaska, Hurky, Husna, Gudderly, Nemeck, Benda, Hulan, Jeilnick. There is also a F. Addison further south on ? Livernois with39 acres. Could this be your John? Also these names (as many others) changed through the years. Anton Cinader was Antony Schneider in the 1870 census, back to Cinader in 1880 but Cinadr on death certificate. In the 1860 census, the Addisons were in the 9th ward of the city of Detroit; the Cinaders were also in the 9th ward. As is John Hulan, their neighbor. They emigrated about 1853 or 1854. I am unable to locate where in Bohemia the Cinaders came from; one of the previous threads mentioned the Addison's came from the Prague area to Quebec. I may be wrong but I wonder if these families had ties before they came to Michigan? How were you able to ascertain Prague as the home? If you look at the Woodmere Cemetery site, you can now search records. There are a number of Addison's in Woodmere, including Frank and Mary (born 1823, d 9/1905; address on Michigan Ave, age 81); Frank's age not given but buried in same plot: 69. I am not sure what the boundaries of the lodge owned area was; Anton and Agnes Cinader are buried in Sect A lots 462 and 427. I am planning on returning to Woodmere to learn more about the lodge burials. Hope this gives you some further direction to look. Michigan death certificates 1897 to 1920 are online at seekingmichigan.org If you can more closely connect these early families from Bohemia, I will appreciate you posting the information Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. May I make one small footnote to this previous message. Before 1867 there may be no civil records of birth, but a church baptism record before that time would include the date of birth and the date of baptism.
