Author: winspeare Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.wayne/17890/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am again offering Detroit City Directory 1904-1910 lookups from microfilm I have on extended loan at my FHC. PLEASE FOLLOW DIRECTIONS EXACTLY. 1. Send the request to me, not the list, that is, knowltonew at earthlink.net Please do not type my address onto this board. Thanks. 2. Put "SURNAME Detroit City Directory" in subject line. YOUR surname, not the word SURNAME. One to an email. 3. That's all you need unless the name is common, in which case please add such things as first name, occupation, addresses from 1910/1900 censuses, etc. I don't care about anything else re the family--this is not a census but a directory of WORKING people, not children, etc. 4. Don't make your email so long that it prints out longer than one page at my end. You don't need to repeat these instructions. 5. Be patient. It takes about four months to find all six years for you, but I think it is really worthwhile. Think about renting other years yourself to share. I have seen other death notices that were weeks and months after the death. With all those children, it may have been the best time for all of them to get together. Author: trischhall Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.wayne/17889/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Russell Alger Scott and Lizzie Loucks had children, Esther May Scott b. 31 March 1916, and Edward A Scott b. about May 1917 (age 2 8/12 when 1920 census taken in January) Russell Scott died 1919 in a Detroit hospital from complications of appendicitis. Wife Lizzie Scott and daughter Esther both d. Feb 1920 in the flu epidemic at the residence of a sister of Russell in Oakland County, Michigan. Other family did not have means to care for young Edward and he was adopted to Cousens who was mayor of Detroit. I have seen his adoption file number in Oakland County, but adoption records were closed to searching. Since both father and son Couzens were once Mayors of Detroit, we are not sure which adopted Edward, or if he even kept his name. All members of Edward's birth family are deceased and we would like to learn what became of Edward. This will then show you a page like this: http://search.ancestry.com/Browse/list.aspx?dbid=7884&path=Michigan.Wayne.Detroit Ward 10 With a description of some boundary roads. They may have him listed in their archives. Other sources are Cranbrook Art Academy, the College of Creative Studies (formerly Society of Arts and Crafts), and Wayne State University. Good luck! Author: pickelsusan Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.wayne/17795.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: First, it is very nice to meet another relative of Mr. C. I appreciate you letting me know how you are related and some of the story behind how. Secondly, no, I am only 'related' by family friendship. Although I know of some of the stories related to the Southern family links, sadly, I am sorry that I have not heard anything of that trunk and the papers. Since you already have reached a connection through the website, I expect that you must have reached Marty. If you would like, I could always ask on your behalf, either about that trunk, or if anyone else in the family might wish or be willing to be in touch and exchange information. Obviously, there are no promises, but it won't hurt to ask. If so, just let me know how to best reference you, and how they can reach you. (NOTE: this is because I am not sure if any of them have a connection through Ancestry.com) At the very least, I can let you know that Bill passed away in Canton, Ohio. Either way, good luck in your searches. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: mcwasthere Surnames: Cawthon, McDowell Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.wayne/17795.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: He would be my 3rd cousin, once removed. I actually did find one of his sons through his web site. The Cawthons connect into my McDowell family through Nancy McDowell's marriage to James C. Cawthon. Nancy and my James McDowell ancestor were siblings. Somewhere, there is supposed to be an old trunk, possibly Nancy's, that traveled from the South to the North with this family. I've heard the trunk is still in existence. There's always the hope that some of the old papers have survived that would give information on the early family that would enable us to connect farther back. Can you tell me where in Ohio he died, and are you a related, too? If you are related, I would be glad to share information. Thanks for your help. Author: pickelsusan Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.wayne/17795.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: As I was doing a search, I ran across your requests for information about William Cawthon, and thought I could help. I understand how difficult genealogical research can be, as I am involved in that myself. I will begin by letting you know that the birthdate and information matches, which is why I think that I can assist. Bill Cawthon physically passed away on the morning of March 30, 2009, although his death can also be listed on March 29th. He passed away in Ohio, although his home and normal residence was in Dearborn, Michigan. Some of his children do live in Ohio, while others reside in Michigan. I have not seen a formal obituary posted, and am not sure that one is planned, but a memorial service is still upcoming. Are you possible relations? I hope that will help. Author: CameronReitmeier Surnames: Dyrval, Brockman, Oakley Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.wayne/17887/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Can someone help me with Wayne County research? I'm trying to locate records on my father, John George Dyrval, born March 23, 1927 in Hamtramck, MI to William Lewis Dyrval and Ruth Naomi (Oakley) Dyrval who divorced a few years later. Ruth moved to California, remarried and remained there. John took the surname name of his stepfather, Brockman. I can't locate any records anywhere under any name for my father prior to 1948. His father's side of the family all come from MI and I've been in contact with them, however they have no records or memories of him prior to 1945. Everyone that have seen pictures of both John and his brother, Bill, recall how much alike they looked, so he is not adopted. I thought perhaps they were twins. I am a member of the Anchorage Genealogy Society in Alaska, and would appreciate any assistance. Thank you.
