    3. Thanks to Sherry, Marge and Joyce for their suggestions and input on Civil War hospitals in Detroit. Guess I'll need to dig out the pension files to narrow the dates down and look for any other clues. Thanks again ~ Donna

    2. Morning everyone, There are two books published by Philip Mason, of Wayne State University, that are excellent with lots of old photos. Harper of Detroit: The Origin and Growth of a Great Metropolitan Hospital in hardcover 1964.? This is about Harper Hospital. Rumrunning and the Roaring Twenties: Prohibition on the Michigan Ontario Waterways in hardcover 1995. Both are excellent books. 2. I found this info too. Dates may not work, but in case others weren't aware of it. "The year after the end of the Civil Was, 1866, a Civil War hospital for soldiers and sailors was located next to the church. Because of Rev. Huegli's close contact with the patients, widows, and orphans, he began the Lutheran Fraternal Association (Insurance) to assist widows with burials, and soon after the Lutheran Home for the orphans (now the Lutheran School for the Deaf). The hospital was converted into a parsonage for the large Heugli family, which had 12 children." Taken from: _http://www.historictrinity.org/trinhist.html_ (http://www.historictrinity.org/trinhist.html) Good luck, Sherry H.
