Doesn't ring a bell with me. Try the Dearborn Historical Museum's archives. They have City Directories for 1930s through maybe the 1960s-not necessarily all the years. This is odd. I did not receive a notice from rootsweb that anyone had posted something to me. I just looked at Ancestry.com and the 1936 Polk City Directory does not have a Birwood. Goes from Bingham to Birch to Bland. Same for the 1946 CD. Where did the information come from? Was it handwritten and maybe abbreviated? There is a Birchwood in Westland. What time period? There was a Robert Hagan with a Michigan Avenue address in 1936. 1946 has a Thomas Hagan on Woodworth. Georgia Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The Archives of Michigan has the films and offers a copy service. The Detroit Police have told me that theit records were water damaged and thrown away. I question this as this summer there was a newspaper article about saving some old files and discarding the rest. Search the Detroit Free Press archives for the article. Since the Michigan death records up to 1920 are online now I looked from 1921 forward and added about 300 more names to those buried at the cemetery in unmarked graves bringing my list close to 1,500 names. Add the approx. 700 stones in the cemetery and we're close to 2,200 names for the cemetery. I have photos of the certificates of the 300 people from 1921 forward who died in Ecorse. Many familiar names for the area along with parents for some of the people for those looking for marriages there's some information on the certificates. There's also people not from the area i noticed and forgotten. Many infants and children not know about by families doing their trees. I've found quite a few never know siblings for my dad and others in my tree. So if I can be of help ! let me know. Author: sowhatifidid21 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.wayne/7323.2.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have a 2nd correction to the article. I overlooked it the first time. The article says Marie is laid to rest next to her husband in Mt. Olivet. False!! Marie is buried in an unmarked grave in the Jednoralski plot with her mother, father & sister Rose. She died in November, 1941 & the head stone fell between the cracks, I assume. John W. Smith, Mayor of Detroit, is buried in a simple grave next to his son listed as "John P. Smith" in another plot of the Smith family or it may be listed as Hoffman. He's buried in a plot with his sister Mary & her husband Arnold Hoffman. Dorothy is also buried in the cemetery in another unmarked grave in the Carty section next to her grandmother, aunts & uncles on the Smith side. Gertrude Carty, Gertrude Smith, Paul, Julia & Edwin Smith, Helen Masson (another sister of Smith), & Stewart Fleming who was son of Smith's sister Gertrude Carty. Also, in a book called "For Faith & Fortune; The Education of Catholic Immigrants in Detroit" lists John W. Smith as German Polish. According to family, his last name was Schmidt or Schmit, again only Americanized for politic reasons. I believe his military record lists him as Schmidt. I also don't know if this is relative as I don't much about sects of Polish immigrants. Rose said her family was Prussian. I've never heard of a mention of Austrian Poles. But honestly I don't know the difference. I know she told that she was German on occasion which upset the family but they were ok with Prussian. His grandmother was Rose Jednoralski Staley. It was known in the family that John was Polish as well but played down that aspect due to possible discrimination he felt would arise due to being a Polish American. Just as a correction to your article is that John Jr. was not Marie's son. She only had Marie. John was a few years old when they married & on the marriage license in Windsor, John W. Smith is listed as divorced. His first wife was Hilda Eberhardt who I assume was John Jr or John P.'s (as Mt. Olivet has him listed) mother. On this side of the family there are NO pictures of John Jr. Frankly I didn't know there was a son until I saw the obituaries. My father in law, Chuck Staley, who passed away in 1979, lived with John & Marie with his brother Ray, while the couple lived in the Mayor's mansion. Rose's husband Charley abandoned her with the boys. The Smiths were able to afford the children until Rose got on her feet. Chuck recalled years later eating Frog Legs at some fancy ball. I have some other pictures of the Jednoralski family & a few of John & Marie's wedding day. Please let me know if you need anything else. You can email me at familylegacy35@aol.com. 3. Death certificates are public records and you can purchase them. Burton only has Wayne County death certificates (not including the City of Detroit) for 1935-53. Only the 1935-50 have been processed and only 1935-49 have published indexes. For lookups in the index 1935-50 you can e-mail me at Detroitsearch@hotmail.com with the subject "Wayne Co death". I am currently indexing 1951 so it will be awhile before the 1950-53 records are available and the index published. Redford Township is not in the City of Detroit and you would obtain the death certificate from the Wayne County clerk or the Redford Twp. clerk Ruth McMahon AG® Professional Genealogist Detroit MI area patsy goates wrote: > ________________________________ > > Could you tell me if they give out Death Certificates for the 1990's ?
