You can order a death certificate either from the State of Michigan, Wayne County or the City of Detroit. The problem is that you are not sure if she died in Hamtramck or Detroit which means that you could get one from Wayne County (they do not have Detroit certificates)if she died in Hamtramck or from Detroit but only if she died in Detroit. Both of those options are cheaper than the State of Michigan. If she died in Detroit, she would be listed on the Detroit death index that the Burton Historical Collection of the main Detroit Public LIbrary has. I would start with that first. You can email them at the following: http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/burton/burton_index.htm For the obituary, if you are absolutely sure of the death date, the Detroit Public LIbrary will do a look up and make a copy. The fee is $15.00 whether they find one or not. http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/gi/InternetObit.Ltr.pdf You might want to contact the following to see if she was buried from St. Bonaventure since that is where Fr. Solanus was serving. St Bonaventure Monastery 1740 Mount Elliott St, Detroit, MI (313) 579-2100? If she was born in Michigan, you can get her birth certificate from the State since you are considered her "heir". Michigan has restrictions on birth certificates. You might want to check Mt. Elliott cemetery which is across the street from St. Bonaventure. http://www.mtelliott.com/ They also have Mt. Olivet Cemetery which is also in Detroit or she could have been buried in a secular cemetery. You could also try Holy Sepulchre which is in Southfield, Oakland County, Michigan. There records are all indexed now I think-same with Mt. Olivet. When ordering records from the State, it is less expensive to mail your request. Following are the websites for the State Vital REcords and Wayne County. For some reason, I could not get Detroit's website to come up. The records are at the Herman Kiefer Health Complex. Try doing a google search. http://www.michigan.gov/mdch/0,1607,7-132-4645---,00.html http://www.waynecounty.com/mygovt/clerk/services/deathcerts.aspx Good Luck, Georgia Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Relatives that either do not know or are not willing to share information. I know when and who she married, I know when she died, I know that she died of breast cancer and that a Father Solanus supposedly read last rites to her. I would get her death notice first and if it shows the cemetery, contact the cemetery to see if Lester is buried there and if they have either the date of death or burial, then try the Dearborn library for his obit. You can order death certificates from the State of Michigan but they cost either $26.00 or $27.00. It is less at the city or county level but if he didn't die in the county that you wrote to, you don't get a refund. Oakland County might tell you if he is on the death index but not sure. I think someone told that they would tell you if a person died in the county. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The Lloyd Heath is the son of Lester and Mabelle in the 1930 Detroit census. I have him and all the siblings living in Detroit from a 1949 obit of his father, Lester Albion Heath. The siblings I am trying to trace are: 1. Lester C. Heath who married Ester. There is a match for Lester C. in the SS Death index that died Dec 1967 but location is unknown. I just found a Esther Heath born Feb. 2 1905 in the SS Index who died Jan 1982 in Dearborn Heights MI. Is there a Death Index for Dearborn Heights? If I can get an obit for her it may help. 2. Violet Heath b. Jan. 24 1908 who was married to George Fury or Furey in the 1949 obit. Cannot find a trace of them. Now looking in Canada. 3. Walter "Murnie" Heath b. February 02, 1909 Died in 1937 and buried in Chatham Ontario with father & mother 4. Lloyd Heath; born about 1911 in Manitoba Can. and no trace after the 1949 obit living in Detroit. No mention of a wife. Maybe I can look for a marriage in Detroit and that would help. Any assistance on the above would be great and I think I am getting close to finding Lester C. Heath. You can get his entire military file by contacting the National Archives in Ottawa. There should be some mention of it on one of the two websites that you've mentioned but, if you can't find it, I'll be happy to look it up for you. If so, you might want to look for a wife. And if he had children, I would try looking at the various websites like switchboard.com for states in which the name appears. Might have lived with his children prior to his death. Do you know his parents' names and where they are buried? Might check the cemetery. Where did his birth year come from? On the 1930 census there were two Lloyd Heaths-one in Detroit ( son of Lester and Mabelle) and one in St. Clair County (son of the widowed Emma Heath).
