Has the Detroit News from 1955 and the Detroit Free Press from 1970. To request a look-up and copy of a death notice/obituary, send SASE to above address Attention: Adult Services. They will not respond without the self-addressed stamped envelope. You must know the date of death or burial. There is no charge for this service as of December 2008. Ask them to look at the Dearborn papers also. I think they have them for that time period. If not, try the Dearborn Historical Museum's archives for the 1947 one. You would probably have to write or call them. I don't know if they have email. The SS death index shows that a Clarence Moon b. 5 March 1884, died March 1965 and his last residence was Michigan but that doesn't mean that he died here. If you live in the Metro Detroit area, the main Detroit Public Library (DPL) has the newspapers on microfilm. They are also at the Library of Michigan (LOM) in Lansing. If you live in Michigan, you can have your local library order the films from the LOM. If you live out of state or in Canada, the main DPL loans the films out at a price through the Inter Library Loan (ILL) program. http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/ill/interlibrary_loan_index.htm For a fee, the library will also do a search for the obit if you have the date of death or burial. http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/gi/InternetObit.Ltr.pdf The 1930 census shows that the family was living in Oakland County, Michigan not Wayne. No index to the news for marriages that I know of. I remember they used to publish the names of those who applied for a marriage license but that would involve a lot of viewing of microfilm. You might want to see if Clarence died in Detroit. The Detroit Public Library has an index to the City of Detroit deaths in its Burton Historical Collection (BHC). Might want to look for Ann also. You can email the BHC at the following: http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/burton/burton_index.htm Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. They have an index to the City of Detroit deaths. It would be a starting point. You can email your request at the following website. http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/burton/burton_index.htm The other option would be to see if there is a death certificate. Mailing your request to the State of Michigan would cost $27.00 Or you could ask the Detroit Public Library to do a search of the newspapers for his death notice. Cost is $15.00 and non-refundable if they do not find it. http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/gi/InternetObit.Ltr.pdf Or if you live in Michigan, you can visit the main Detroit library on Woodward Avenue or the State Library of Michigan (LOM)in Lansing which also has the Detroit papers on microfilm. They are The Detroit News, The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit Times. For that time period I have found that the News was the larger, then the Free Press and then the Times. Also, if you live in Michigan but are not able to visit either of the libraries, your local library can order the films from the LOM. The Detroit Public Library also lends the microfilms out of state thru the Inter Library Loan program if your library participates. They do charge a fee for the films lent out of state and to Canada. http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/ill/lending.htm Georgia Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'm still trying to find John Taylor Sr's date of death. He was on the 1880 census living in Detroit, living with his wife & kids. It says he was born about 1827 in England and is 53 yrs old. And keeps a boarding stable. By 1884 his wife is listed as a widow in the city directory. I haven't heard from the Archdiocese of Detroit. I was hoping a record might be found in Annunciation church. Any one willing to help with this brick wall? I certainly would appreciate any help! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! cousin Mary at: i-be-leve@msn.com
She might be a "grass widow" and he is still alive somewhere. I had a woman who said she was a widow on the census and then I found her husband living with his parents and he said he was divorced.
