Hello - My maiden name was Joy Gregoire. My family lived in Detroit during World War II. We left there and came back to our native West Virginia in 1947. I've been back to visit a couple of times, but that is all. We lived in two locations there - one on Senator Street or Avenue and the other on Church Street. I started kindergarten at Henry Ford Grade School in 1945. I carry pictures of these places in my mind's eye. I would love to communicate with someone who is familiar with these places. Also, I am looking for an obituary for Jane Melchior. She was my mom's best friend during those years and they stayed in touch until my mom died in 1975. At that time, Jane was living in River Rouge, Wayne County. She was married to Don Melchior. They had one daughter. I know when that daughter's birthday is, but will withhold that info for security purposes. From the Social Security death index, I believe Jane Melchior died on 25 Jan 2004. Her last known residence then was River Rouge. And the age was right - so I believe I have the right person. Joy Stalnaker

Evening everyone, I have an old (mid 1940's) insurance policy that has an add page that is a photo copy (in reverse all black with white writing) of the original application that is stuck together from being folded in half. I don't know if it got wet at one point in time or is just from being folded and stored away for years. Would like some ideas on how to separate this page without doing any more damage to it. My ideas are: -- applying some heat via a hair dryer would work to "loosen the ink". -- some steam doing the old unseal an envelope trick. -- spraying a little water to dampen as in trying to open sort of like trying to remove wall paper. Open to suggestions on this. Thank you, Marge

The parents of Frank are given as "Martin Selbat" & Kate "Przreska". The priest that performed the ceremony was Rev. John Rzadkowolski (who was the pastor of St. Josephat). You might consider getting the marriage record from the church which may prove to be more accurate with the spelling of the names of the parties involved. There is a record in the 1890 Detroit City Directory for a Martin "Soldat", occupation: boilermaker, residence: 302 Brady. On the 1900 Federal Census, Martin "Sulbut" is still residing at 302 Brady. His birthdate is given as Oct 1843. His wife Catherine (Sep 1845), son Frank (Sep 1877), daughter Annie (Dec 1886), and daughter Mary (Aug 1888). The 1910 Federal Census shows Martin "Soldarck", age 69 & his wife Katherine, age 67 living with their daughter Mary "Lesnau", age 22 and her husband John Lesnau. Mary "Seldon" (daughter of "Martin & Kather.") married 20 Aug 1906 in Detroit to John "Lessnau" (source: familysearch.org) Anna M. Joseph "Soldatik" (son of "Martin & Kate") married 2 Oct 1902 to Anna Rummler (source: familysearch.org) There is also a death record on seekingmichigan.org for a Martin "Soldateck" who died 11 July 1916 (age approx. 77) at 747 Theodore St. in Detroit (which on the 1910 Census was the home of Anthony Koja). Interesting name. There is a street named Bringard in the very far northeast section of Detroit. Possibly named after someone of that family. The Burton Collection has a history of Detroit streets. I don't do the Detroit Library. -----Original Message----- From: miwayne-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:miwayne-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, December 14, 2009 12:19 PM To: MIWAYNE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MIWAYNE] Frank Seldat of Detroit This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
