Have the Wyandotte Catholic Churches records been transcribed? Are they at the local library or on the internet? My church of interest is St. Patricks. Thank you.

Hi Jan. You might try this website. I don't know if it has the info you want, but it is interesting. http://www.old-delray.com/index.htm Delray's boundaries are roughly the Detroit River, Fort Street, Clark Street, and Dearborn Avenue. The French who made up the first European settlement in Detroit found local Algonquin and Hurons in the area, who liked its proximity to excellent fishing waters. The name Delray came from a local citizen, Augustus Burdeno, who had served in the Mexican War and named his property after a south-of-the-border town that charmed him, Del Rey. Incorporated as a village in 1898, Delray was formally annexed by city of Detroit eight years later. Donna

Does anyone on the list know what enumeration district that Delray would be in, in the 1910 census of Wayne Co.? Or where I could go to find that information? TIA, Jan

To use an American expression, "you have made my day"! I have spent hours and hours in the past trying to find, without success, what you seem to have found quite easily. How did you do it? What tools, what databases did you use? Is your success due to the fact that you are, presumably, in Michigan and know you way around the available resources? I ask these questions because there are other family members who have gone to America whom I would like to research. For example, on my wife's side (she is French) there are two brothers, George and James/Jack/Jakob Wackermann, who fled from Alsace in the mid-1860's to avoid being sent to fight in Mexico. They served in the US army, but as civilians, settled on a ranch in Arkansas, brought girls across from Alsace to be their wives, one of them stayed on in America and disappeared from view and the other went back to Alsace, hence our knowledge of their adventures. But I can find no trace of their entry, stay, or departure from the US either in Ancestry or in FamilySearch. Much closer in time, I have a Daniel O'Rourke who left Southampton, UK, on the Queen Elizabeth on 31 March 1954 bound for New York (I found the ship register on Ancestry) but I cannot find any trace of him in America. Well, I did find a naturalization request for a Daniel O'Rourke but since it is a relatively frequent name I cannot be sure that it is him. Any advice you can give me will be very much appreciated! I have to go now, but will get back to you later today about the Magee's. Once again, thank you very, very much!!! The 1930 Census actually shows that a "George" Magee is the husband of Janet. Also, according to findagrave.com, there is a Michael Magee buried in section 21 of Grand Lawn Cemetery (b. 1896 d. 1954) with the inscription "HUSBAND-FATHER". I agree with Georgia that you should write the cemetery for additional information on Michael Magee & who else is buried in his plot. Magee born: about 1889 in Ireland to George & Theresa Magee married: 28 Jan 1918 in Detroit to Marguerite Chill (born: 1892 in Ohio to Frank & Julia Chill) There is also a 1925 marriage record for a Mildred Magee (born 1908 in Ohio) & a 1924 marriage record for a Clarence Magee (born 1904 in Ohio) which may be the two children listed on George Magee's draft registration (possibly adopted?). George & Marguerite may have been together before their "official" marriage in 1918. Also, Mary Garhart made a trip back to Liverpool in July 1926 with her children Grace(?) age 3, and Patricia age 2. They have an index to the City of Detroit (only) deaths. You can email your request at the following: http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/burton/burton_index.htm I think the index gives the age of the person but I cannot remember. If he died in Detroit, you can get a record from the City of Detroit. If he is not on the Detroit index, records are kept at the county level but he may not have died in Wayne County. Therefore, it would be better at the State level but they charge $27.00 for a 3 year search and 12.00 for each additional year searched. I did not find him on the Social Security Death Index but if he died before the mid 1960s, he would not appear. Also, even if he died later, he may not appear on the list if no one reported his death to the Social Security Administration. I have attached a copy of a border crossing entry for a Michael Magee who appears to be your grandfather and also an index to naturalization with a Michael Magee. If you are interested in hiring a researcher, there is a list of researchers on the website. I don't think I have ever heard of Grand Lawn Cemetery referred to as Grand View. You could try writing the cemetery, enclosing a self addressed stamped envelope and hope that their records are complete but I think they had a problem with whomever ran the cemetery before and the records were not what one would like. If he lived in Dearborn (note spelling), there was a Christ the Scientist Church on Morley Avenue. Georgia Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. For any county except Wayne Co. it is recommended to contact the county for quicker service. Since you know the name, year and county of death then you can request a death certificate from the state for a fee. You will find the Web site at: http://www.michigan.gov/mdch/0,1607,7-132-4645---,00.html to have ordering information. If you have problems with that URL then try http://www.michigan.gov/ and search you way through. Another option you have is to find an Obit. The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press where two papers around at that time. Sometimes you can find a library in the area who might be willing to do a lookup. Please note that the state of Michigan is going through an economy depression at this time and many libraries have lost funding and have reduced some services they used to offer. A third option is to contact the cemetery and see if they have any information (such as obit or who paid for the plot). A fourth option is to look for a genealogical society in the area and see if they have anyone to do research for an obit. Or see if they have any information in their files. I don't know of any on-line sources for person who died that late in time except possibibly Ancestry.com which requires a subscription.
