For those who might be interested, I did a Google search for St. Catherine Church in Detroit. One of the pages was for the book *Catholic Churches of Detroit* by Roman Godzak. He is the former Archivist for the Archdioese of Detroit. The book sells for $17 on Amazon. It has a picture of St. Catherine Church, and the information is that is was located on Seminole north of Mack. So my initial information was incorrect. This book did not appear in my first Google search or I would not have posted my first message. Does anyone know if it is possible to locate a photograph of St. Catherine Church in Detroit which was on Maxwell between Sylvester and Canfield? The church was closed some years ago. It is not the St. Catherine of Siena which still exists. I suppose the Archdiocese of Detroit might have photos, but I wonder if there might be another source. Thank you. Thank you once more for having taken the time to try and help me! I had not thought of looking for Mary Magee on Family Search and I am therefore all the more excited by the information that you found out about her. She did indeed marry Harold Garhart. My mother had mentioned that name to me. In the 1911 census in Belfast Mary was aged 9, which would put her date of birth at 1902 rather than 1900. She was in fact only 19 or so when she married, not 21. Perhaps she needed to fudge the date for legal reasons, like needing her parents' approval if marrying under the age of 21. I am all the more inclined to that view because the wedding was a civil one, perhaps because Harold was a Protestant. Her Irish Catholic parents would not have been happy at her entering into such a marriage. It's very interesting to see that she travelled to Liverpool in 1926 with Mace (not Grace) and Patricia. In fact her parents were on the same boat! Her parents had emigrated to America in 1923 (I found their names on a ship register) but, according to family lore, her father had problems getting his British army pension paid to him and in 1926 they returned to Liverpool. Presumably Mary was accompanying them. A Google search revealed that Mace died in 2007. As regards George P. Magee, as I have just explained to Georgia, his date of birth does not seem right. Pity! The information that you and Georgia have been able to uncover excites me and motivates me not to despair of finding trace of the Wackermann brothers and of Daniel O'Rourke. I stopped my subscription to Ancestry.com some time ago because I was not making any progress on my American files. In view of what you and Georgia have found there I am going to renew it. Once again, thank you very much for your help! As I said to Georgia, if I can ever help you in any way, please do not hesitate to ask! I am so thrilled at all the information I can glean from the Canadian border form! Michael Magee, my grandfather, "ran away", as they used say, to Detroit with another woman and with the passage of time the two children he had had by my grandmother lost contact with him and his family. He had at least two other children, a George born around 1934 and a Brian. Now that I know that he arrived in Michigan in June 1930 I can discard the George and Janet Magee whom I had found in the April 1930 Census. My mother claims that her father divorced her mother in a US court in the 1930's and then married another woman, presumably the one he had run away with. Could you tell me where I should look to find that sort of information? And where should I apply for a copy of his naturalization document? Given that the name and date of birth coincide I am sure that it is him. I seem to remember reading that immigrants had to wait a certain number of years before being able to apply for citizenship, which would explain the seven years between his arrival and his application. I myself had previously looked up the Michigan Naturalization Record Indexes but did not get very far because I could not see any reference to either Wayne County, Detroit or Dearborn. I will write as you suggest to the Grand Lawn Cemetery. If he is indeed the Michael Magee who is buried there and who died in 1954, that would explain why he is not in the SSDI. In the meantime I'll send an e-mail to the Burton Historical Collection and ask if they will look up Michael Magee's name for me. I have also tried several times to access the obituary section of their site but without success. I'll try again tomorrow. I've noted the address of the Christ the Scientist Church and will contact them to see if they can find his name in their records. A final question, do you know if Ford kept the records of its workers and if they can be researched? As regards his brother George, thank you for trying to root him out as well! I am not sure though that the draft papers are his. In the 1901 census in Belfast he is aged 8, which would mean he was born in 1893 or 94, and when he arrived in New York in 1910 he was aged 17. In comparison this George Patrick Magee was born in 1889. On the other hand, there is a striking coincidence in the Jones Street address, because in the copy of the ship register which I found in Ellis Island, George Magee was on his way to stay with his aunt Annie Wright who lived in 81 Jones Street Detroit and I see that George Patrick lived in 112 Jones Street. Funny! Once again, thank you very much indeed for enabling me to make this breakthrough! I live in Belgium. If ever I can do anything to help you, please feel free to ask and I'll go my best. Remember Woodward is the center line going east or west and then from the river north. Happy Hunting Marge Hi Jan. You might try this website. I don't know if it has the info you want, but it is interesting. http://www.old-delray.com/index.htm Delray's boundaries are roughly the Detroit River, Fort Street, Clark Street, and Dearborn Avenue. The French who made up the first European settlement in Detroit found local Algonquin and Hurons in the area, who liked its proximity to excellent fishing waters. The name Delray came from a local citizen, Augustus Burdeno, who had served in the Mexican War and named his property after a south-of-the-border town that charmed him, Del Rey. Incorporated as a village in 1898, Delray was formally annexed by city of Detroit eight years later.
