She is the daughter of Engelbert Hass (sic) and Johanna Ferr??. Looks like she is buried at Assumption Grotto which most likely means that she was CAtholic. The Church may have additional information in their death register. If you live in the Detroit area, the Church records are at the Burton Historical Collection of the main Detroit Public Library. Informant for the DC is Bernard Biermann of Halfway, Michigan which, according to "Michigan Place Names" by Walter Romig, was later named East Detroit and is now Eastpointe. http://www.assumptiongrotto.com/ The Mormon Church's test website shows a marriage of Mary Metter to a Henry Biermann on 28 Oct 1896. http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=0 You might want to check what else the Mormon website has for the Metter & Biermann names. My grandmother was adopted at the age of 2, and she didn't find out about her siblings until a few years before her passing. Since not much is known by living relatives, all I have to work with is my grandmothers birth certificate and a copy of her probate court order for her adoption. I've tried looking at great grandparents names and home address in census and city directories but have come up with nothing. I've traveled to the State Library and Archives, as well as Detroit Public Library to look further but, due to apparent state regulations, I cannot access birth records or probate court docs in relation to adoptions for the time period in question (1919-1921). Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can look next? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Her obituary also said she had a sister Mrs Mether of Detroit who was 91 yrs old and didn't travel to the funeral. Presumably the Albert is her son. In 1910 census, in Gratiot, there was an Englebert Metter, age 53 (b 1867 ?) with a Theodora Metter age 88 and a widow Mary W Bierman age 46. Is this her daughter? They have Michigan deaths from 1867-1897. http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=0 Unless she was a well-known or wealthy person or was killed, I don't think you will find an obit for her or even a death notice. If you find her death record, you can get a copy of an obit, if there is one, from the Detroit Public Library for $15.00. Need a date of death. Or, if you live in Michigan, you can order the Detroit Newspapers from the Library of Michigan (LOM) through your local library. They are on microfilm. Or if you live near Lansing, visit the LOM. I believe he was the son of James Clark and Elizabeth (Allardyce) Clark, both born in Scotland and died in Wayne County, MI. William H. Clark married Annie Ledbetter or Ledbeater 1869 in Dearborn. They had the following children, that I know of: Clyde, Jennie, Arthur, Glendine / Glen, Juanita, and Isabella. Clyde A Clark died (unmarried) in 1881 and buried at Woodmere Cemetery, Detroit. Jennie E. Clark married Louis W. Howe in 1899 Dearborn and had a son, Elba, in 1902. Arthur P. (Pierson?) Clark married Elizabeth Snow Haight 1907, Dearborn. He may be buried at Northview Cemetery, Detroit. Glendine / Glen M. Clark married David R. Clark in 1915 Detroit. They had at least two children: David Jr (b. 1917) & Mary (b. 1920). Juanita B. Clark b. Jan 1884, MI, may have been buried at Northview Cemetery, Detroit. Death date unknown. Isabella C. Clark was b. 1886 and was still unmarried in 1920, Dearborn. No other information. William H. Clark had a school named after him in Dearborn and a street named after his family (CLARK STREET) in or near the town / village of Wayne, in or near Nankin Twp. William H. Clark had two SISTERS that lived to adulthood: -Isabella May Clark, who died in 1918, Dearborn. Isa owned land adjoining the cemetery in Wayne, MI (Old Michigan Ave.) and was a dressmaker in Chicago. She never married and was buried at Glenwood Cemetery. -Elizabeth Clark, married James Jamieson in 1861. They raised a large family in Wayne, Michigan and are buried at the Glenwood Cemetery, there. Over the years I could not help but notice how many women in my Detroit Polish families worked in a cigar factory. They lived in the neighborhoods of St. Albertus Church and Sweetest Heart of Mary Church - Warren Avenue and such. I have done a little probing into this business, and I have discovered two possibilities. One is the White Eagle Cigar Factory (1910 Sanborn map) which was located at 400 Grandy near Warren and was founded in 1889 by I. Wolff. Two is the Mazer Cigar Company (1921 Sanborn map) which was at 5031 Grandy and Theodore near E. Warren. If anyone has detailed information about these two cigar businesses, I would be most interested. Are there are books or articles about them? Thank you. >From my Index page on the Dziennik Polski newspaper: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~meliasz/detroit/DziennikPolski/Complete_Index_DziennikPolski.htm We see an Ignacy Braciszewski died on or about 11/12/1913 at the age of 27 (implying a birth year of about 1886). Likewise, a Wawrzyniec (Lawrence) died on or about 5/2/1924 at the age of 71 (abt. 1853 birth year). Franciszek at age 22 married a woman whose last name was Ratajczak on or about 4/29/1904. Perhaps it was Franciszek who had a son born on or about 1/28/1911. It may be worth your while to visit the Library of the State of MI (in Lansing) and to view some microfilm of Dziennik Polski. It appears your family read this newspaper and their vital records are often listed.
