I am searching for a great grandmother from Hamtramck. Her children were put in an orphanage too. She was said to have died at Northville State Hospital in 1974-- but I have nothing to document it. The children (all girls)were in Guardian Angel Orphanage (somewhere between 1930's- 1940's) I am looking for anyone that can help me find records from those places. When my grandmother tried to get information, she was told the records were closed and she couldn't find any answers. I ran away not knowing the area I had ran away in. The home was located at Fenkal and Linwood. The State of Michigan later closed it down for abuse and I can only say that I was not a boy during my multi year stay and no boy should have to march instead of walk and the punishments were very bad. I was so afraid to speak up over other abuse as I knew no better other then I was like a slave and totally controlled every minute. Never having to leave the home as it had its own barber, shoe store, school and all else. They were so very strict that to this day I am not able to maintain normal relations and am very harsh and outspoken. I regret what the nuns there did to me as well. So many raised up there are dead, mental, in prison and otherwise. I doubt many are doing well in all reality. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Second marriage to Henrietta Pegutzke (b. 1864) with eight children. Ludwig or Louis immigrated in 1880 according to the 1900 census and moved to Detroit, Michigan.
