I found a death notice for an Elizabeth Daly who died in 2002. She has a daughter named Elizabeth and one named June. Does not mention her husband nor if she had any other children who may have predeceased her. Daly Elizabeth 2002-04-30 Age 103. April 28, 2002. Dear mother of Elizabeth White & June Goralski; grandmother of 12; great grandmother of 22. Member of the Third Order of St. Francis. Visitation Tuesday 4-9 pm with 8:00 p.m. Scripture Service. Funeral service Wednesday 9:30 a.m. from John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home, 1139 Inkster Road (between Ford Rd. & Cherry Hill) to St. Sabina Catholic Church for 10:00 a.m. Mass. If Felix died in Michigan, he does not appear on either the Social Security death index which mostly has people who died from about 1963 or so to present or the Michigan death index which covers 1971-1996. It could be that his name was not transcribed correctly or maybe he went by a middle name?? If he died in Detroit, his name should appear on the City of Detroit death index which is available through the Burton Historical Collection of the main Detroit Public Library. You can email them at their website and ask them to look for him, not only on the Detroit index but also in the books that have the Wayne County death indexes which do not include Detroit. http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/featuredcollection/burton-historical-collection Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He had 6 children. his oldest son, Felix (named after Hughs father) was born in 1901/2 and emigrated to Wayne in 1923 where he married and in 1930 had 2 children. These were Elizabeth born 1929 and Hugh born 1930. Now I know it can be confusing with names being reused through the generations but if anyone has information on the family of Felix and Elizabeth Daly or their children that would be great. Hugh senior (born in 1869 in Ireland) came to visit at some stage and then returned to Scotland in 1934. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The name is not very common in Ireland. The name Scannell is an Irish name but it has a Gaelic origin.Often when the Irish Scannell emigrated to the US the name was incorrectly spelt as Scamell, because the double n was mistaken for an m. This has caused me a few problems in the past. I live in London. My branch of the family have lived in London since the early 19th century, but originally came from Frome in Somerset and before that from Wiltshire. All Scammells regardless of the spelling of the name come from the same place.I am in contact with families from the US,Canada,South Africa,Australia and New Zealand,so the Scammells have travelled quite a bit! You didn,t tell me how Edith had got the Walker part of her name. Had her husband William died before she went to the US? Did she marry again perhaps? Or was the name Walker her maiden name before she married? Any help on this would be appreciated. Best regards Vic Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am not specifically related to this branch of the Scammell family. All Scammells are related because of their common origin in Wiltshire,England. I have been a researcher of the name for many years now and research the name worldwide. I have visited the US on several occasions to do further research. An ancestor of ours was a Colonel in the American army in the Revolutionary War,Alexander Scammell. In the 13th century in England a Walter Scammell was a Bishop of Salisbury. If your wife's sister wants any further history of the name please get her to get in touch. I will only too pleased to help. Best regards. Vic Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. All the censuses have questions about the citizenship status of the individual. Please see the following website for more information at the NARA about what records are available and where to search. http://www.archives.gov/research/naturalization/ The Michigan State Archives has an index to some records until about 1906 I think It has been awhile since I was looking and not finding anything.
