So if anyone is still around- the only Roeglin names that I know of are as follows- Jennifer Roeglin (me) Henry Roeglin (dad) Charles Roeglin (dad's brother) I believe my grandfather's first name might have been Henry as well, but I could be mistaken. He passed away early, I think in his early 30's. I dont know where he was born. I dont have much more then that which is a bummer. Olivet. http://www.mtelliott.com/genealogy/search You can contact the cemetery and get a date of burial which could help you get a death record from either the City of Detroit (if he died there) or the State of Michigan or the county in which he died. Do you have the Archbishop's ancestors? There is a tree on Ancestry.com which shows that the Archbishop was born in Grand Rapids and his father was born in Lithuania. Marriage record on Familysearch.org for Alexander and Mary shows his father's name is Vincent and the he (Alex.) was born in Russia. I am assuming they are Catholic. The priest's name on the record looks like C. Rohowski. I would try contacting the Archdiocese of Detroit (AOD) to see if they can help you. Marriage date is 20 Jan 1890. A book published by the Downriver Gen. Society shows a Casimir Rohowski at St. Albertus Catholic Church from 1889-1891. According to the Archdiocese's website the parish is closed. If you live in the Detroit area, the records for that period of time are on microfilm at the main Detroit Public Library or contact the AOD. Records should be in the archives if the parish is closed. I thought they usually told people to contact the Burton Collection for a date of death if it was about 1920 or later. Try the Burton first just in case he is listed. He could have died in a Detroit hospital. And it is so much cheaper than Lansing, especially if you don't have the date of death. If you get the certificate from the State, it costs either $26 or $27 plus the $12.00 per year search if you don't have the date of death. Their (City of Detroit)website says to contact the Burton for a date of death-it's free and you can email them on the Burton's website. If he died in Detroit, then get the death certificate from Detroit. Cost is $20.00 per their website: http://www.detroitmi.gov/Default.aspx?tabid=1002 Were they Catholic? I would try calling or writing the various cemeteries near where they lived in Detroit. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I found out using phone book records that they were north of Mack on Cadieux Rd so I'm pretty sure that is now Detroit, not Grosse Pointe. I called Detroit and they told me to call Lansing. Apparently Lansing has the entire state's records. They can do searches for a fee or the Library is open for me to search for free. I don't have info on my great-great grandfather or great-great grandmother. I don't know their birthdate, deathdate or cemetery. Author: Georgia1910 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.wayne/5529.4.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Try emailing the Burton Historical Collection of the main Detroit Public Library. They have an index to the City of Detroit deaths. Email address is at the bottom of the website. http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/featuredcollection/burton-historical-collection Street is spelled Cadieux. There is a William McMurray buried at Mt. Olivet. No date of death on the website but you can email the cemetery association: http://www.mtelliott.com/genealogy/search If he died in Detroit, you would get the death certificate from the City of Detroit; if he died in Wayne County, you would get it from the County Clerk or you could get it from the State of Michigan. All of those options are expensive if you do not have a date of death. And they are still fairly expensive with the DOD. Do you know where his wife is buried? If you do, try the cemetery. Wikipedia shows that Gratiot became part of Harper Woods. Not sure how good this info is. Death records are not considered a primary source for the date of birth. Author: stalcm1 Surnames: STALCUP ROCHE RANSOM Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.wayne/18705/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi - I am related to Gloria Dawn STALCUP (1922-1988). I am not sure when she moved to the Detroit area, but believe she lived there at least in the early 1940's. She moved there with her mother Fanchion Wade RANSOME STALCUP. Fanchion was divorced from her husband Chester Stalcup and possible was married or living with a man of the last name ROCHE. Gloria and her mother do not show up in the 1930 census that I can find. I do have a WWII Enlistment Record of Gloria enlisting in the Army (WAC) on Jan 04, 1944 in Detroit. I just ran across a newspaper article from 2/19/1944 from the Pittsburgh Press that mentions Pvt. Gloria Stalcup of Detroit known to Pittsburgh roller skating enthusiasts as "Gloria Roche" hanging up her skates to join the Army. It also states that she won many American and Canadian roller and ice skating championships and appeared in rink shows throughout the nation. A Google search using that information doesn't yield anything. I'm hoping there might! be someone in your area who is aware of Gloria Stalcup Roche and her ice/roller skating exploits from the early 1940's - she was famous enough to have a small article appear in a Pittsburgh, PA newspaper, so hopefully she had enough noteriety in the Detroit area that someone would recall her. It is a long shot, but one never knows! Thanks in advance for your help! Mark Stalcup [email protected] Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
