Elliot cemetery website. It is actually several of the largest Catholic cemeteries and you can search for free on their site. If you contact them, they will usually get back to you within a week with any info they find. It has been extrememly helpful to me, and sometimes you get additional info, like who they are buried with, and who purchased the plot (which may lead you to other branches you didn't know about). Best of all, it's free! Good Luck! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hello - I'm searching for a marriage application/license for Beulah Viola Brenner and Harry Mahlon Hare. It is believed that they were married in Wayne County/Detroit circa 1917 - 1921. Can anyone tell an "out of towner" how to find an index or request an application/license during this time period. Any hints or help would be more than appreciated! Todd Zeigler in PA

(I think that's the name of it, but if not it's close.) There are also several figure skating clubs (mostly ice skating) in the Metro Detroit area and they may have some material on her. I'm not sure about roller skating, but I'm an ice skating fan primarily from watching competitions on TV, so I know that this area is very big in the skating world, and I'm sure that they can direct you to someone. But they return to the UK and are on the 1901 census. I know very little about the 10 years they were in America and would love to try and fill in the gaps. I have recently found them on the ships passengers list as travelling to New York and from there they must have travelled to Michigan. Although recorded as HARDEN I have found a Birth for daughter Emily. Emily B Harden b.24.sept.1891 Detroit, Wayne, Michigan. I have been unable to find a record for daughter Lillian who was also born in America ( @1894 ) By the 1901 census the family are back in London and go on to have 2 more children ( including my Nan ) My mum has a wooden box given as a good luck present to her grandparents on thier new life in America but she has always wondered about why they went, what they did while they were there and why they didn't stay ! How can I fill the gaps for when they were in Michigan. I believe any possible clues from a census at the time wont be possible as it was detroyed in a fire - so where do i start ? Is there anywhere to start. I had thought about getting a copy of the BC for Emily - but don't know what info you get on American certs. Would it gives me any clues ? I have also been unable to find any record of the family returning to England. I seem to have no answers to a lot of question and would appreiciate any help ideas Esta Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The Livonia Civic Center Library in Livonia, Michigan (a suburb of Detroit) has the Detroit News. You can email them at the following: http://livonia.lib.mi.us/genealogy Where is says Livonia Observer Obituary Index, click on the "our webform" option and ask for a look up in the Detroit News. Let them know that you are in Norway. I think they can send you a jpg if they find a death notice. If it is not in the Detroit News, the other option would be to write to the following: Henry Ford Centennial Library 16301 Michigan Avenue Dearborn, Mi 48126 USA Has the Detroit News from 1955 and the Detroit Free Press from 1970. To request a look-up and copy of a death notice/obituary, send self addressed, stamped envelope to above address Attention: Adult Services. They will not respond without the self-addressed stamped envelope. You must know the date of death or burial. There is no charge for this service as of December 2008. There are no online options for the marriage in Wayne County that I know of. You would have to get a copy of the certificate from either the State of Michigan or from the county in which they married. If they appear on the 1930 census as married, that might help with an approximate date of marriage since it asked their ages at first marriage. The 1940 census just has their marital status (married, single, divorced, widowed). If they had children, that could have helped with a date of marriage. If they belonged to a specific religion and you knew where they lived, that might help find a church record but many churches have either closed or moved out of Detroit.
