Olivet cemetery in Detroit by searching their online database. The last name was spelled wrong in their database but I searched using only a few letters of the last name and found him and many other family members. When I called the cemetery, they were extremely helpful and nice. Off-hand the cemetery did not have a birthdate for him but later emailed me all the information they had. They had a death date and his age at the time of death up to the year, month and day. Using some good old subtraction skills I figured out his birthdate and confirmed that he IS the same Charles DeGrendel that I have received information about from Belgium. That birthdate has just allowed me to trace my ancestry back to the 1730s!!!!! Thanks for your help! -RJ PS - I would NOT recommend dealing with vital records in Detroit. They are unorganized and LAZY! They never answer the phone and their voice mailboxes divert you to other numbers. When you call the other number, their voice mailbox is full. After 3 days of calling, a woman finally answered and could not have made me feel more unwelcome. She told me I need to contact Lansing. From this experience, I would not trust Detroit to do a search properly. I still am interested in a death certificate for my great-great grandfather so I filled out a form and mailed a check right to Lansing. I'll let you know how efficient Lansing is. About 4,000 bodies were dug up in the 1880's to make way for the market. They were reburied in one big grave--just east of where Conner crosses I-94. There's a marker." It's also a possibility he may have been buried in the city cemetery and is now part of the one big grave. If this is the case I do not know how you would find out if he was buried there. You may want to check this website first the site is: http://www.mdch.state.mi.us/pha/osr/gendisx/search2.htm This is a site that you can put the last name and first name of your great grandfather. If they have information on a death certificate in the state, it may come up there. Hopefully it may state which cemetery he was also buried at as well. Good luck in your search. Natalia was born ca. 1830 in Canada and was on this census with daughter Susan (born ca. 1856, Michigan) and young Josephine (born 1858, Michigan). This family is next to Frank and Matilda BURGART (Beauregard?) on the census. Frank is age 22 (born 1848) Canada and wife Matilda is age 17 (born 1853) Michigan. This census indicated that Matilda worked in a sash factory. My thought is that Matilda was Josephine's sister and Frank was John Beauregard's brother, but I need to find proof of this. The Goshier surname may be some form of "Gauthier." Josephine's name in many records was spelled Gautier/Gauchet/Gockey/Gauchy/Gochey/Goscha. Thank you so much for your message.
