Author: abradell Surnames: PIERCE, REYNOLDS Classification: death Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.wayne/18732/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My father Charles Robert PIERCE (biological name) was adopted in Detroit Michigan on August 15, 1928. He was born on March 19, 1924 in Detroit Michigan. I have his birth parents names as Charles PIERCE and Betty REYNOLDS from a document that was in with my father's belongings after he passed away. The document is a Certificate of Birth from The Detroit Department of Health - Division of Vital Statistics and he is Reg. No. 6908 I am trying to find out any information on my fathers birth parents. Supposedly the story was that my fathers adopted mother (Berta Marie Snyder) ran a foster boys home and would not adopt unless both parents were deceased. According to his military record he was in Detroit until 1941 or 1942. I was hoping to find a listing for him so I could track him down in the 1940 census. Since he wasn't in the 1930 census either, and I believe he was in Detroit at that time, I wonder if he was evading the census taker. Thank you again for you help. I'll have to wait for the index Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: CEB49 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.wayne/18731.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Yeah, I know he wasn't in the 1930 Detroit Census. That's why I was using his address from his 1936 social security application. He was on Hollywood Avenue in 1936. I located that address (using cross streets) but there was a different family living there in 1940. That is why I need a look-up from the 1940 city directory. Unfortunately, I don't live in Michigan, so I can't get to the library there. Thanks for reading my post, I'm hoping someone with access to the library could look up his 1940 address. I know he didn't leave Detroit until a couple of years after 1940. Thanks, again. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. BERGDAHL who was living in Detroit, Michigan in 1940. I'm hoping there is a City Directory for that year. I know that in 1936 he was living at 88 Hollywood, Detroit, Michigan. His Social Security application gives that address, and it says he was employed at "Allways Moving Company", also of that address. I'm trying to narrow down his correct address in 1940 to find him in the 1940 census. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Elliott. This would put the family near both Mt. Elliott (Catholic) Cemetery and Elmwood Cemetery. I didn't find him on the Mt. Elliott website. You might want to try Elmwood-they charge for queries. http://www.elmwoodhistoriccemetery.org/pages/genealogy.html If the family was Lutheran, they might be at the Lutheran cemetery aka Trinity Cemetery. It appears to be about 2 miles north of the other cemeteries. 5210 Mount Elliott St, Detroit, MI 48211 (313) 921-0286 ? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My great grandmother would be Mary Pickering, born 1890. Are you related to Jessie Scott Donald? I am having trouble understanding our relation. I don't know of any other siblings of James (1887). Do you have any other information? I have found what I believe to be Mary Scott's (wife of James Stewart Donald, b. 1856) parents, Robert Scott and Mary Pennycuik, both of New Monkland, Lanark, Scotland. I will also pass this discovery of our relation to my mother, whose maiden name is Donald. She will be very interested. I am also trying to find information of when this family arrived in America. The closest I found is James Stewart Donald, b. 1887, may have arrived in 7-24-1915. Thank you so much. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
