I did find the same item on familysearch.org The marriage is approximately 6 weeks before my father was born so am not sure if this is his parents or not. I found Charles Pierce in the SSDI and he died in 1959 but have not been able to locate him (so far) in the 1930 census. Again thank you for your input, it is greatly appreciated. My dad and his 2 brothers were put into a foster home when my G-father passed. They were all young (dad was oldest at 8) and they were then split up with 3 different families. G-mother remarried later and raised a 2nd family. We had very little contact with his family over the years and much of what little dad remembered was just a few childhood memories. It has taken a lot of research to find out anything about his mother's family since he thought her name was Lenora vs. Alice. Guess she didn't like Alice? I pieced together by being a pest that maybe it was Alice and then Sanford name was remembered later. Then I went looking for the Sanford families from Napanee. I never met her or any of her side of the family. I only found out that he was born in Canada when I went into the military and needed his birth information for security clearance forms. It was a big surprise to me at the time. I did trace W.E. Sanford back a few generations. William E. Sanford - George Washington Sanford - Simon Sanford. They seem to have left the USA in the early 1800's and married into some United Empire (Tory American)families that fled after the US revolt. Some of The Simon Sanford child returned to MI over the years. Don't know what the draw was other than maybe MI was being timbered and offered jobs? The name George Washington Sanford doesn't seem to fit with the Sanford's being Tories. So???? I haven't found William Ezra or Bertha (Kelly Sanford's final resting place. One person said they were in Connecticut. I haven't found anything to back that up. My guess is MI or Canada. Ditto with Florence. I just recently found the 1920 census and don't know what happened to her. Alice Lenora Sanford Burns Cooper died in PA along with her 2nd husband. Sounds like Harry was a real stinker. A ladies man? Must have left some broken hearts? Should be some records where he was jailed. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I think that daughter was my Great Uncle Harry's daughter. According to my godmother (a cousin of my mother) Harry did have a daughter but she could not remember her name. Harry was convicted of Polgamy in 1924 and served 2 years in prison. That is why I think he was married to Viola Bartels in 1921 and Florence Sanford in 1929. Harry was in and out of prison and died in prison in 1958. If he was married to anyone else during this time I have not been able to fine any information, except when Harry was convicted of armed robbery in 1952 it list a wife name Anna Bolde, which I have not been able to find any info on. Do you have any more info on Florence or her daughter? Do you still live in Michigan? I am living in Florida now. I guess you can say we are related through marriage. If you email me at [email protected] I will give you instructions on how to view when he is finished. Might be next week before he gets it finished. NB For Betty, we have a photocopy of 1930 census and we interpreted middle name as Jane as being more common in Scotland than June which is more common in England. It could be either as the hand writing is not too good. Do you know which it is for sure? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My Gmother Alice Lenora Sanford was a 1/2 sister to Florence Sanford. The Sanford family was from Napanee, Ontario, Canada. Their father, William Ezra Sanford, moved to Wayne Co, MI for auto related jobs it appears. The 1920 US census has Florence living with her mother/father in Wayne Co, MI and is listed as being single but with a dau. I will guess that she divorced Harry? Harry is living with Joseph Bolte and is listed as being married. So???? My Gmother (and my father) were also there in Wayne Co. since her husband, my Gdad, had died. My GGmother, Olivia Pratt, died in Canada and W.E. Sanford remarried to Bertha Kelly, mother of Florence. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He married Phyllis West, and they lived in Michigan. He was a carpenter, as was his father (according to the 1942 WWII Registration). James's sisters birthdates and dates of death are as follows: Mary (May),b 3/30/1913 (?in Canada) and d. 1/4/2001 in California. She married Fred Ingham, and they had two sons. One is named James, and he resides in Naples, Florida. The other is Donald, and his whereabouts are unknown. Jean, b. 4-7-1920 (?Detroit, Michigan) and d. 11-21-1958 in California. She married Charles Kennedy, and they had one son, Charles. Betty June, b. 6-13-1925 (?Detroit, Michigan) and d. 10-17-2004 in Arizona. She married a man with surname Davis, and had two children. Possible name of one son is Burke or Burt. One of her children died in Las Vegas, Nevada. Shirley b. 9-29-1927 (?again assume Detroit) and d. 11-3-2004 (Arizona?) She first married Dennis Ressel, and together they had 3 or 4 children. One of her sons is Dennis. She divorced Dennis, and later remarried to Warren Denen. We are not sure when the four sisters moved out to California, along with their parents. We know it was after 1942 the parents went out there. When my grandfather was terminally ill, his sisters all came out to visit him. James and Phyllis remained in the Detroit, Michigan area, so her family would be near. They had three children, Patricia Carolyn (my mother), b. 4/15/1945; Joan and James. I will get their specific birthdates for you, as well. My mother has a vague memory of an aunt on her father's side that lived in Royal Oak, Michigan. This aunt died circa 1953. Does that sound familiar to you? Please share with your father. I apologize for it being in "American" format, in regards to the dates. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
