Hello listers, You are all wonderful and have such knowledge. Thanks for all you do. Have a question. Was there a local newpaper in the Ann Arbor area? If so, how were obits handled? My cousin died I believe in 1969 and was just curious if the obit would be in a local paper. Thanks again, Debbie
Debbie, Check out this site, I haven't personally used it yet. You supposedly can look up death records from 1960 to the present Al Wakenhut The Washtenaw County, Michigan Web site provides a variety of online services. Its property assessment database allows researchers to look up assessed value or last sale price of just about any street address, check out the history of sales over recent years, and even view a legal description of the property. Researchers can also order vital records online: Birth Certificates - 1867 to present Death Records - 1867 to present Marriage Records - 1833 to present The charge for the first copy of a vital record is $13. Each additional copy is $4. If age 65 or older ordering a copy of your own birth certificate, the cost is $5 for the first copy and $4 for each additional copy of the same record. There is a $2 convenience fee for each record ordered. In addition, more recent deaths and marriage records may be searched directly online: Death Records - 1960 to present Marriage Records - 1965 to present These databases are being expanded backwards, so check back at a later date for additional years. Washtenaw County includes Ann Arbor and the towns of Chelsea, Dexter, Manchester, Milan, Saline and Ypsilanti. Debbie, If you have an name and the exact date of death, I will make a copy for you. The Ann Arbor District Library has a microfilm collection of the Ann Arbor News for 1969. Does "Ann Arbor area" mean Ann Arbor City? The Ann Arbor News carries out-county obituaries but Chelsea, Ypsilanti, and Milan also have newspapers during this period.
