Thanks to all those who have responded to my plea, both via the list and individually. The suggestions offered for research, especially about the state library, are most welcome. I think the library is the place to start, as this Wood family was in at least these Michigan counties: Washtenaw, Wayne, Ionia and Mecosta, and that's just my husband's Wood branch. My own family has roots in Menominee and VanBuren counties. All our grandparents ended up in Chicago, where we are now. Lois Mack Schill
