    1. Emery WOOD
    2. Emery Wood was the great-great-grandfather of my husband. He is listed in the 1840 Federal census in Washtenaw Co. MI, age between 30 and 40, with one adult female age between 20 and 30, and one female child under the age of 5. That child was Juliette, who died 18 Sept 1840, supposedly in Byron, Genesee Co., NY. Emery's birth on 7 Nov 1808 is recorded in vital records of Swanzey, Cheshire Co. NH. Information gathered from another family member has his death on 17 July 1847 in Wayne Co. MI. The 1850 Federal Census has a woman (his widow?) Rebeca, children David, Diantha, Wallace (my husband's great-grandfather), and Mary, living in Ann Arbor, Washtenaw Co. MI. What we are seeking is a copy of the 1845 Michigan census. Ancestry.com has Emery in Ann Arbor Village, Washtenaw Co. MI, on page 006. The database is MI 1845 State Census Index. We would like to know if Rebeca Wood is listed, and if there is an indication that she is his wife. The children who should have been with them in 1845 are David, Diantha and Wallace. Mary was born 2-3 months after Emery's death in 1847. The 1850 census is the first indication of a name for Emery's wife and the children's mother. That is, if Rebeca is the wife and mother. Family information has the first 4 children, Juliette, David, Diantha, and Wallace, all born in Byron, Genesee Co. NY. Mary is born in 1847 in Wayne Co. MI. By 1860 Wallace was in Livonia MI with his uncle, Abial Wood. Family lore is that the mother (so far in family records, unnamed) died and the children were living with brothers of Emery - Wallace with Abial Wood in Livonia, and twins David and Diantha with Washington Wood in Byron, NY. Where Mary was is a mystery. Where might we be able to view that 1845 state census? Thanks for any help you can provide. Lois Schill Chicago IL

    3. There is the FREE 1870 MI Census online and you can view the original page & print it out. I found a Wallace Wood, age 34, white, married, a blacksmith, with a wife Mary, age 19?, with a one year old son "Orla" in Olivet, Eaton Co., MI. Rebecca Wood is in Kent County in 1870. Also, be sure to check the Dibean marriage index for county marriages. Here is a Rebecca Wood, don't know if she is yours listed in the MI Gendis, early deaths before 1897: WOOD, REBECCA Date of death:26-Nov-1876 Ledger Page:73 Record Number:1039 Place of death:ALPINE TOWNSHIP County of Death:Kent Sex:Female Race:White Marital Status:Widowed Age:81 years 5 months 13 days Cause of Death:OLD AGE Birthplace:NOT GIVEN Occupation:NOT GIVEN Father's Name:Last name not recorded, NOT GIVEN Father's Residence:NOT GIVEN Mother's Name:, Mother's Residence:NOT GIVEN Date of record:16-Jun-1877 -------Original Message------- From: MIWASHTE-L@rootsweb.com Date: 08/01/04 19:32:18 To: MIWASHTE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [MIWASHTE] Emery WOOD Emery Wood was the great-great-grandfather of my husband.
